Cpap pillow

Post by kjstender » Mon May 04, 2015 1:13 pm

Hey guys brand new to CPAP and this forum. I have had my machine for four days and am actually adjusting ok just not able to sleep on my side. I have a nose pillow mask that works great but wanted anyone recommendations on a pillow to use so I can sleep on my side?

Google Pap pillow (or do a forum search on it).

Do you mean the Pillow system of a mask? Or a pillow to put on the bed. I sometimes use a buckwheat hull pillow for my head, as it can be set to one shape, and in some ways, keep the shape.

Do a forum search on "buckwheat" or "Chiroflow" and you'll find those and other types of bed pillows and the discussions.

I think I bought my buckwheat hull pillow from Pure Sleep. I use it but it's kind of hard.

I have one too. I removed about 50% of the hulls and find it to be very pliable and accommodating of my full face mask for side sleeping.

I use a bamboo pillow, they are the shredded memory foam pillows. you can find them online and on amazon. mine works great can be molded and are machine washable and dryable.

I have used a memory foam pillow for years with my Breeze nasal pillow system. It's not a cpap-specific pillow and doesn't have any cutouts but it does have a "wave" shape. I found that I needed two of them to get my head to the proper height but I'm a big guy.

I ordered the buckwheat hull pillow today to try out and review and it will probably arrive in about a week. I am anxious to see how they compare. I think I may like how adjustable the hull pillow will be.

I find that with my Breeze nasal pillow mask, there is no interference or issue with the bed pillow. What are you using now? Just a regular pillow? Feather? Foam? Polyester?

I've tried several pillows, including the cpap.com PAPillow. I'm also a side sleeper, and a light sleeper at that, and the PAPillow was about the best for me. Used it for a couple of years. Even took it on trips when traveling by car. Tried one of the buckwheat hull pillows, too, and found it too firm for me. Tried one of the pillows with memory foam with the contoured cutouts on the edges for a cpap mask, too, and found that too firm as well. Picking a pillow is a very personal thing, when you find what works for you, you'll know *smile*.

I've recently started using the Tempurpedic neck pillow, the "large" size gives me the right height and width for side sleeping, which I've found is just about the right firmness for not affecting my mask much. Don't even have to hang my mask off the end of the pillow, although that does help. It is an expensive pillow, so I went to a store that has the neck pillows on display and tried it out there, to be sure that it wouldn't be too firm or too soft for me (I also don't care for a pea under my many layers of mattresses *smile*). It is a different feeling, but I'm really liking it, and it has helped reduce mask leakage in as well as being comfortable. One of the reasons that I picked the neck pillow was the shape of the left and right edges, having the flat edges on the side makes it easier to hang ones mask over the edge if needed. The tapered edges of the other Tempurpedic pillows don't allow that. And I've had chronic neck problems, the bump for more neck support is also helpful for me.

Just a note, I found that I couldn't really relate to the Tempurpedic "side" pillow, oddly enough. The shape just didn't work for me, tried it in the store as well, and couldn't get comfortable.

Finding your pillow, at least for some of us, is a process of trying options until you're comfortable. Then you can stop looking...*smile*.
