Didn't miss it at all. We totally agree on that ... which is why I never raised it as an issue.

Re: Resmed F20 mask flap valve trouble
Omitting the pressure compensation that occurs based on the humidifier when you brought the hose into it.... There is no user setting for humidifier compensation, and there is only one humidifier option that is integrated into the design. Presumably they have already characterized that to wh...

Re: Resmed F20 mask flap valve trouble
The default (x0) setting compensates for the *average* mask, so your comment about sticking the hose in your mount would be wrong. So, how is it that every Respironics mask requires X1 or greater, but the *average* non-Respironics mask is X0? How exactly is it that flow resistance only matters for ...

I have read up. Suit yourself. I didn't say a word about the humidifier though.

Re: Did Resmed change their pillows?
The P10 is a perennial favorite. Some people are using the new N30 headgear with the P10 mask for a better fit. My wife and I both like the P30i, which uses a similar pillow design but has the hose at the top. However, I do think their sizing is a little off. I'm a big guy, and use the large cushion...

Re: Resmed F20 mask flap valve trouble
I'm going to guess that you have the mask type/resistance set to X0. That is the official Phillips Respironics recommendation for any non-PR mask. It is what Respiratory Techs are trained to do, and also what some here will tell you. It is also utter nonsense unless you sleep with the end of the hos...

New mask: Resmed F30i
Resmed's response to the Dreamwear FFM. It looks like the P30i/N30i frame with a new cushion and headgear. Unlike the regular F30, there is a wide option. Cpap.com will begin shipping them tomorrow.

Re: Mandibular device
I tried many of the mandibular devices on the market before accepting that they were no substitute for CPAP ... so here I am. For me, mandible advancement is only marginally effective no matter how well the device is made and fit. Tongue advancement devices are significantly more effective, but the ...

Re: Reducing rebreathing
I've seen that some masks and tubes are advertised with valves to reduce rebreathing. I'd appreciate any recommendations for equipment that minimizes rebreathing. Thanks! If you are referring to anti-asphyxiation valves, they are not intended to reduce rebreathing. The valve remains closed in norma...

Re: Can patients safely alter the settings to come up with good results
My departed wife's eight year battle with cancer proved to me that we need to be our own well-informed advocate. Her oncologist was outstanding, and they had a great rapport. Nobody knows what's going on with you better than you though. Medical tests are not the magic people believe them to be; they...

Re: Can patients safely alter the settings to come up with good results
Well, this isn't actually correct, the minimum pressure is what the machine mindlessly tries to attain all night long. It operates on the assumption that the minimum was set by someone with a brain, not some almost a quack, so it always wants to be at the minimum. Breathing events cause an exceptio...

Re: I'm a dentist treating myself! CPAP Results... Advice please?
The machine does not ENTIRELY twiddle its thumbs DURING an event. Both Resmed and Respironics will use short pressure pulses during a pause to measure the airflow resistance. This is done to determine whether the potential apnea will be classified as obstructive or central. The implementations diffe...

Re: Can patient's safely alter the settings to come up with good results
Many doctors don't really understand the CPAP machine anyway. That is a crucial point. Medicine and embedded control (ie, how the machine actually works) are PROFOUNDLY different fields of expertise. Complicating that, the engineering specs in the back of the manuals (the part nobody reads) sometim...

Re: I'm a dentist treating myself! CPAP Results... Advice please?
I'd suggest lowering the EPR by 1. Will do. Curious as to why? Reducing EPR will have the effect of *raising* your pressure, since EPR is a pressure drop from the set pressure. The raised pressure *may* help with the centrals you're having, by reducing ventilation a little, and it may help the obst...
