It's not a total scam. Believe me, insurance companies know the costs. Part of what you are paying for is customer service and assistance. You may not require a lot of assistance, but other customers do. How many masks are you going to go through before you get the one that works for you? I don't know if they can sell used masks, so that's a cost they have to eat.FranckDG wrote:I just got my cpap machine today. It's a REMSTAR SE 220P with humidifier. . . . (cut)
Is it possible to negotiate directly with your insurance to buy a machine and have them cover some of the cost?
You have to check with your insurance company. The online stores WILL NOT DEAL with your insurance company, but will provide an invoice to you to present to your insurance company for reimbursement to you. I would call your insurance company in advance and tell them that you are returning this unit and would like to buy your own and then file for reimbursement. Anyway, I agree with you that it is a great price from the link you provided, but all the advice I've had on here says you are better off with a more expensive, auto machine. The data on this machine only gives compliance information, not what you need to monitor your therapy. In addition, as your condition improves, having the machine adjust to YOUR breathing is generally going to be more effective for most people.
