Switching from PRS1 50 to Resmed S9 H5i - Humidifier ?

Post by adipasqu » Mon Apr 27, 2015 12:22 pm

As soon as my ClimateLine tubing comes in, I will be making my 4 year old PRS1 950 ASV my backup machine and putting into daily use a Resmed S9 VPAP Adapt acquired recently with 0 hours on it. My question for those who have used both manufacturers machines (not specific to ASV) surrounds where to start settings wise on the H5i humidifier, since I have zero experience with the Resmed S9 H5i. Currently, I am using my PRS1 Series 50 humidifier in classic mode with a setting of 3. Any ideas on where I should start on the H5i? I realize it will take some trial and error to figure out the best setting, but any guidance will be appreciated.

Thanks

Classic mode at 3 is a decent amount of added humidity. I have used it myself on my old 50 series machine.
Since have used both brands.....I would suggest you start off with the simple "automatic" setting with the ClimateLine that delivers 80% and you just adjust the hose air temp to your personal comfort. It will deliver the same humidity no matter what the air temp.

For me I like lots of moisture and I like for it to be constant and me not have to worry about how the ambient humidity in the room is messing with things so I use the "automatic" and just adjust air temp...cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter and the humidity delivered stays constant. Some nights I use more water than others depending on ambient humidity.

Despite living in a desert with a dry climate, I don't like a lot of humidity. After using the default settings where you just adjust the temp, I changed the configuration to separate the humidity and temp so I could adjust both.

Wrote an article on it: https://sleep.tnet.com/reference/tips/resmed9humidity

For the past month or so, I ended up ditching the heated hose altogether... In the 8yrs + that I've used CPAP, here, I have never had rain out issues and came to conclusion that unless I visited some other temperate climate somewhere else in the country which has higher humidity, I would never get it.

In fact, the S9 is the first machine that even had the heated hose option for the equipment I have used.

I keep the humidity now around 2.0 - 2.5. I bump it up to 3.0 if I have a cold but rarely.
