New CMS-50E Software ??

Post by JayR_1945 » Thu Apr 23, 2015 11:27 am

I have been using a CMS-50EW for many years and it finally gave up the ghost.

So, I bought a new CMS-50E from Amazon at a reduced price.
http://www.amazon.com/CMS-50E-OLED-Fing ... 00IWOKTC0/
I can't download the data via USB cable (old or new) using either the old software (2.0) or the 1.5 that came with it on either my WIN XP (32 bit) NetBook or my Win 7 (64 bit) desktop, using the old cable of the cable that came with it or the new one. It does not recognize the device.

If there are (New) drivers that need to be uninstalled, I would not know where they might be.
I are a matoor Engineer. I should be able to do this.

Any ideas here?

I have the CMS 50i and use SpO2 Assistant 2.4.
You might also try Sleepyhead which also works great with my 50i.
If you Google it you can find several sources including Cooper Medical where I bought mine.

the E uses a different cable, and a different communications protocol.... unless they changed them.

The CMS-50 lineup updated its firmware to version 3.7 around a year ago. This may be a consideration. Sleepyhead has a specific listing for this version.

Does the device appear to work? If so, then look to the cable for the problem. The USB cables for these devices are sometimes different from a normal USB cable. They apparently are more like the old switched pair serial cables that allowed two way communication with the attached device.

Have you tried a new ordinary USB cable to see if that might work? Just a thought before you return it to the vendor.

I have SPO2 v2.7, maybe that would help?

We should really start a page where people list what version they have, so we can swap them around in case someone has a version that isn't working for them.

Where can you download this from. I've tried google and it doesn't come up with this version.

The version 3.7 is the firmware O/S on the oximeter and not the analytical software used on the PC. The oximeter comes from the factory with this version burned into its chip. As far as I know an owner can't update the firmware. The reason I mentioned it was because when CMS updated to this version they changed the device communication protocol. If the original poster was using software on their PC that was written prior to version 3.7 then it wouldn't have the proper communication protocol.

Welcome to the "Can't Get the Daggone Software to Recognize the Device" Club. I bought a CMS50e several years ago and it worked fine with the software. Then I bought another one from Coopermedical, and it didn't, though I downloaded all the updated drivers and software. Talked with their technical service, but nothing I/we tried worked. So I returned it. Then bought one off Amazon, and also couldn't get it to work, so I returned it as well. Yes, I know there's a UART in the cable; that wasn't the problem; I had two of them, one I know worked. Then I lent my working CMS50e to a friend and the display died shortly thereafter. I figure I got my money's worth out of it. Verified that the settings on my S9 Autoset are doing the intended job, and impressed the heck out of my doc' with the charts and data. He wanted to know where he could get one. But I'd sure like to be able to make use of the software. I won't buy another one.
