Quattro FX new mask for me, nd help with leaks
Hello, Very long time since I've been here. After six years I've had to bite the bullet and get a new machine. ResmedS10 and the mask I got is the Quattro FX. Yes, I have to have a full face mask. Just getting started with it and I am having lot of trouble with leaks. My old mask (the mirage quattro) was no picnic for leaks either but I could get around it pretty well. However, the same old tricks dont seem to be working here.
Any suggestions for the FX? I thought it would be nice to do away with the forehead piece but right now I'm already thinking of heading abck to the mirage....
anyone have experience/tips to share? I would really appreciate it.
Jean

I used that %#@*! mask for over a year and the only way I could get it to almost not leak was to make it tighter than most people on this forum recommended. Looser just did not cut it in regards to my facial structure. I know that flies in the face of conventional wisdom at CPAPtalk but that's just the way it was for me. I'm now using the large ResMed Airfit F10 and never look back.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

I use the Quattro and last year I tried the FX and F10...both were leakers. I'm back to the Quattro.

Okay, sounds like the leak factor is definitely out there. I may just go back to my Mirage Quattro tonight and see what happens. I've been without a functioning machine for awhile and I need the sleep.LSAT wrote:I use the Quattro and last year I tried the FX and F10...both were leakers. I'm back to the Quattro.

I have been successfully using the QFX mask for over 2 years. First of all you must get a mask liner like the ones Pad-a-Cheek sells. This will help a lot.
When I was first fitted with the QFX, I measured as a Medium. I didn't like the bottom of the mask that close to my mouth since my jaw drops at night and would fall out of the mask. I opted for a large instead. This size rides lower on my chin and takes any jaw movement out of the leak-equation.
Tighten the lower straps snugly and the upper straps looser. This anchors the mask to your face (at the bottom) while allowing the cushion to fully inflate around your nose bridge. If the upper straps don't quite support the mask on your face properly, then you could add a stretchy headband over your head and mask. Make sure the headband rides between the vent holes and the mask elbow. This has kept my mask comfortably against my face without over-tightening.
I found the QFX headgear to be disappointing in that it kept stretching out around the back of my head (yes, it was the right size). I found this headgear and will never try another: https://www.cpap.com/productpage/softca ... onics.html. With this headgear, I was able to eliminate the headband.
I also added padding to my headgear to minimize face/neck marks, like the ones that Pad-a-Cheek sells.
Hope this helps!

M'ohms, thanks for your reply! Funny, I was just thinking about how this mask really does cover a smaller area on my face than the Mirage did. I will look in to this.

I used the Quattro FX for a while. I did get it to work by doing two things: 1) washing my face just before going to bed. That helped keep the seal. 2) using a Velcro strap under the chin from the lower straps. This kept the mask from sliding up my face overnight.
I still have it, and keep it just in case of a massive cold or something, but find that nasal pillows work for me much better.

Sorry, I just couldn't resist dragging out this old chestnut of mine from the past... it's a good tip even if I'm using an Airfit F10 nowadays which tends to never ride up ib my face. Here's the reprint:SleepDisturbed wrote: using a Velcro strap under the chin from the lower straps. This kept the mask from sliding up my face overnight.
To keep my QFX mask from moving around and especially from riding up here's a tip: It's a kludged together under-the-chin-strap I made from a bicycle cuff strap... it works like a charm. Ask for a poly/cotton blend at the bikeshop because they are more comfortable on your skin IMO. Pugsy said she knows of someone who makes them on the forum but I lost the link - maybe as her. NOTE: The strap is looped around the lower straps and fastens with velco at the bottom - that helps protect your skin from the velco rubbing it raw.
You could also cut up an old chinstrap or an old set of headgear with some life still remaining - I've heard that works good too. Note I used to use a Padacheek on my Quattro FX mask:

Thanks for the photo, it shows the setup perfectly!
I used part of an old chinstrap. I think it was the back strap from a ResMed Deluxe But don't remember for sure.
