I am new to this blog group and new to using CPAP. So very glad to have a support group here.
I've had sleep apnea for at least 7 years if not longer. I finally got myself a sleep study and found I was having 15 hypoapneas a night. I got a CPAP machine about 2 weeks ago and have used it for about 12 days now. Within the first few days I realized this was the right move for me.. I felt refreshed, energetic and positive. However I would only get 3 - 3.5 hours of that. For some reason It would slip off my face after that
For the past 2 days, my non-CPAP time period must have become longer. I've put on the CPAP machine before going o sleep at night, but have woken up in the morning with it gone from my face... lying somewhere else on my bed.. I have no recollection of waking up or taking the face straps off, but each night, I've found the hoses to be far from where I was!!!
I guess I'm back to being a crab again!
Any ideas on what might be happening and how to prevent?

A lot of CPAP newbies have trouble with taking the mask off in their sleep.For the past 2 days, my non-CPAP time period must have become longer. First, if you wake up before it's morning and the mask is not on your face, find the mask and put it back on before going back to sleep. Don't beat yourself up in the middle of the night for doing something you can't remember doing.Any ideas on what might be happening and how to prevent?
Next, some people find that if they tape the headgear frame on their face, that will make it a bit harder to take the mask off without knowing what you are doing. The idea is to just put a small piece of tape over the headgear and on you cheek---you're not trying to glue the mask down with the tape. Rather you're trying to make it just a bit painful when start to remove the mask. When the tape pulls on your skin, it may make you wake up enough to realize what you are doing. So you can put the mask back on and then go back to sleep.
If your machine is set to "Auto ON/Auto OFF" mode, you might want to turn "Auto ON/OFF" off. Yes, you'll have to manually hit the button to turn the machine on at the beginning of the night. But if you take your mask off in your sleep, the machine won't turn itself off. And the noise of the CPAP blowing air through the mask may wake you up enough to realize that you need to put the mask back on.
Finally, if you are having any problems with nasal congestion or a dry nose, you might want to experiment with the humidity setting. If you are using a relatively low humidity setting, try increasing it. If you are using a relatively high humidity setting, try decreasing it.

If you only had 15 events a night, you would not have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. It was probably 15 events per hour. That would be considered between mild and moderate sleep apnea. I agree that you will need something to keep the mask on your face. Some people have had success with putting a chinstrap over the mask...others have used tape. As robysue indicated, we need some more information in order to help you. Machine, mask, pressure information would help.AnnaS wrote:Hello all,

Another suggestion that works for many people is to spend more time using the mask and cpap when you are awake and doing something else - like watching TV or doing something on the computer. The idea is just to get your face and body used to using it. If it doesn't feel like a foreign object, you are much less likely to take it off in your sleep. Desensitization.
