OT: I've been told I'm officially old now......

Post by mgaggie » Sat Apr 18, 2015 11:26 pm

that I need reading glasses.

I'll be 40 in August so in the grand scheme of things I'm NOT that old, although some days I feel like I'm 104 with all the aches and pains I sometimes get.

Oh I also found out that someone I looked after as a toddler is now married and expecting their first child.

So I guess its all downhill from here?

I've got kids a lot older than you, so you're just a "young thing" to me. Trying to remember 40..... Just wait till you see how they tease you at 50.

You mean I only have four years before I'm old? I better cram a lot of life in the next four years.

So how old is old? I'm not going to be old, just a bit older.

I still remember when I was told that I needed "those" glasses. For some reason it came as a total surprise as I thought I just had come to a point where I simply needed glasses and for me there was some sort of imaginary difference in what the end result meant.
Some how I felt like I had got my first dose of realizing my own mortality or something. It actually was quite traumatic for a little while. Till my rational brain took over from the irrational heart.

In terms of age...my own various birthdays haven't been too earth shattering but when my one and only daughter turned 40 it was then that I got another dose of my own mortality. Her birthday bugged me more than my own.

Or like yesterday when I talked to my step sister who is one year younger than I am (I will be 63 next month) and she told me she has "another" great grandchild.

Like a t-shirt I saw "40 is 21 with 19 years of experience"

When I hit 40 I had a 2 month old tucked under my arm - in fact that birthday disappeared in a haze of sleep deprivation....

When is "old"?
When we need reading glasses?
When hair and joints betray us.
Or when we become grim and forsake joy.

I think I have a piece of cheese in the fridge that is about 40, and yes that is old and disgusting!

J/K

Really, 40 is nothing. You are still able to kick ass and take names -- go for it!

40 isn't even middle aged anymore. I read that 60 is the new 40. So I guess I'm not there yet either!
Adult children seem to take some kind of joy in trying to make their parents feel ancient. One of mine tries to convince me I have early onset dementia because I can't remember something she once told me. Of course then I have to explain to her that I don't always listen to every word she speaks. I tune her out or my ears would explode!!!
Morbius, are you bored?
