Problems with my IntelliPAP Machine

Post by ethanp » Thu Apr 16, 2015 11:35 pm

I was diagnosed with severe sleep apenea last month and picked out the IntelliPAP machine for it's warranty, reviews, and location of the water chamber. Until recently the machine has been great. But last Friday, I was sleeping early that morning and was awakened by one very loud beeping nose from the IntelliPAP. I had been deeply asleep so I ignored it and tried to dose back off- only to hear that loud beeping nose again. I was up by then, investigating, but couldn't see what made the machine make that nose, so I turned it off and got on with my day.

That night when I went to bed, there was a decrease in the air coming out of the machine. The digital reader readout didn't seem very different, but the out-blowing air was LESS. Enough that I couldn't wear my sleep mask (full face) all weekend. It just wasn't blowing out enough air to breathe properly. I contacted my doctor and took the machine in to his office. My doc and his nurse said the Develibliss rep told them the IntelliPAP machine can't beep and raised the pressure up to 12.

The higher pressure isn't helping a bit. Since I saw my doctor, the machine has beeped several more times, and now there's hardly any air that makes it to the end of the cpap hose. I tried putting my mask on tonight while sitting up, hoping my awake breathing might increase that pitiful air flow. But no luck, the airflow remains quite low. And now, even if I have the mask strapped tightly to my face, the machine keeps reading that my mask is off.

Anyone have any idea what's wrong? I'm at a loss.

What model Intellipap are you using?
The only trouble shooting information I found indicated an obstruction in the air intake. Check the filter and see if it is very dirty.

Otherwise, take it back to your DME and request that they measure the pressure at the mask end of the hose. If it is failing to provide enough air, it should show up with a manometer test.

Here is a link from someone who made their own. It looks pretty simple to do.

I don't know exactly -- but doesn't the Intellipap have a little rubber plug on the bottom or something that deals with connecting the humidifier module? Maybe the plug has come loose and the air is all leaking out from somewhere.

Here is a link on trouble shooting the Intellipap.

There are a couple of items that may be your difficulty.
