Just starting but diagnosed setting not enough O2

Post by ByronB » Wed Apr 01, 2015 8:23 pm

Just diagnosed with rather severe apnea, titration determined setting of 7 needed and I'm trying a donated CPAP machine.

Problem: feel suffocated and leg is seriously falling asleep. I'm not getting enough air.

Having the same problem with:
- pressure setting of 7 and even 7.4.
- EPR on or off
- Ramp feature on or off (and when I use it, after the ramp time is up, the pressure seems to go down--that's a head-scratcher)

I know this defies common sense, but it's my experience over and over. Very maddening.

I see a tech tomorrow, but I really would relish your ideas on how to solve this. Thanks ahead of time.

Without a steering wheel installed, (A machine that collects full data, a program that reads it, there is not way to even guess what the problem is)

For treatment to work, the pressure in your airway has to be high enough to hold the airway open. Excessive leaks can stop treatment from working. You can try higher pressure if leaks aren't the problem, if leaks are the problem will get worse. Jim

If using the ramp feature, turn it off, it can starve you of air.
Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!

What mask are you using?
If it is a nasal pillow mask can you try the next size larger in the nasal pillows?

Thought my profile was supposed to show my machine:
Resmed S9 Elite with ERP. Using a Nasal mask.

Mask leak seems to not be an issue according to display.

Ramp was off last time I tried, as I said (either way, problem occurs).

Looks like I need to up the pressure substantially. Thanks for your comments so far.

Equipment profile isn't showing anything yet.
Did you click on "submit" after you made your choices? If you didn't click on "submit" the changes won't stick and nothing will show up.
