Vertical mount for RV camping?

Post by Uncle Flapp » Wed Apr 01, 2015 7:48 pm

The front sleeper of my toyhauler is narrow and my wife and I would like find a way to stop sharing the bed with my machine. No free space on the sides as this is a crawl-in sleeper but if I could mount the machine flat against the wall, it would be ideal. I could easily do without the humidifier for a few days so that isn't an issue. I thought about velcro but would rather not keep anything permanent on the base. Some sort of hinged basket would be better - load the machine upside down and snap it in to place right-side up.

Do y'all have any ideas? Any mods done this way?

Thanks for your help.

Flappy, Velcro won't work, but those 3M Dual Lock coins would. I use them to fasten an attachment (Laminar Lip) on my windshield and covers on the headlights. It hold on at over 100 mph in the full wind. They are just coins the size of a nickel. It would be like putting a plastic foot on your machine, totally unobtrusive, but it would stick like crazy, but release when you want to remove it.

Dual Lock comes in coins, strips and black or clear. Much stronger than Velcro.

How about a shelf attached to the ceiling? Or sticking out from the wall near the ceiling? Route the hose through a hole of some sort such that you can't pull it off the shelf. Put the shelf near the corner of the roof such that you can't easily hit it with your head.

Oops! Thread title is "horizontal" but I meant vertical. I usually know the difference.

Thanks, Sleeprider, that is worth a look. I haven't played with those and some experimenting may be in order.

I have an overhead cabinet in there already but it is a pain to use and I often wake my wife when kneeling on the bed to access it. I would prefer something a little more accessible with as small of a (horizontal) footprint as possible.

I was envisioning something like one of those locking covers that businesses put over thermostats but larger, of course.

Thank you again for your suggestions.

On my boat I keep my 560 (same shape as yours) under the corner of the mattress. Its wedged in tight but its seems to work fine, although it occasionally vibrates on the bulkhead. No humidifier is not an issue on board.

I ass u me you are sleeping crosswise to the direction of travel. Do you sleep on the inside or outside of the bed?
If outside you could put your 960 next to/below the bed, on what ever cabinet or counter happens to be there, or a shelf mounted on that wall below the bed.

Why not cut/bend a four sided box out of hardware cloth, screw the sides and bottom to the wall,
and park your machine in this "wall pocket"? Liberal amounts of Dip-It would prevent scratching.

Here is a picture for clarity:

Walls touch the sides of the mattress. Placing the machine at the foot of the bed isn't really an option since that is the entrance/egress. The existing cabinet is too high to reach while laying down. To keep the machine accessible yet out of the way, I would like to mount the base of my machine flat against the wall.

Thanks again for your help.

I had a loft bed when I started this stuff. I used a wire basket attached to the side to hold my machine. Look in gardening centres for stuff like that and screw it to the wall.

I don't believe that the machine should care if you velcroed it to the wall, you *could* use some sugru to fashion some loops on the side, and something like 3m command hooks to stick to the wall.

or maybe a 10 foot hose and put it on the table by the foot of the bed?

I like Sleeprider's suggestion the best thus far. Even though it won't be used in the trailer, I'll probably also have to add Dual Lock coins to the bottom of the humidifier so that the machine doesn't wobble when at home resting on the nightstand. As far as the trailer, I prefer not to have the machine at the foot of the bed in the event of any midnight bio-breaks. Access in and out is pretty narrow.

I'm in the office and away from the machine so I can't yet measure it but if I can find Dual Lock coins about the same size as the existing "feet", I'll swap them out to create a pretty elegant solution.

What is going on in the cabinet above the bed? Have you considered drilling a hole for the tube and just installing the CPAP inside? All you need is a 1-1/4 hole and the CPAP (and humidifier if you want) will set securely in the cabinet and the hose will drop to where you sleep. Out of sight, and will autostart with your breathing. Alternatively just suspend a shelf from the cabinet. Anything from a fancy fold-down shelf to a wire rack

Yes, I have used the cabinet in the past with the door open but it is up high and difficult to reach. I often wake early and sometimes in the middle of the night. Kneeling on the mattress to access the machine will wake the wife. Same can be said for gushing of air in the mask when not wearing it. My best bet is to have arm's reach to the on/off button.
