DME guy brought my new ResMed ASV machine today...
He went through everything quickly; as expected, and wasn't much help at all with the computer access. He referred me to the brochure for that, but after he left, I went upstairs to the bedroom and rested; not slept, with it on for 33 minutes. It did not bother me, and I even managed to lie down on my tummy for a while without blocking the mask. It's a really nice machine, and I hope it helps me a lot. It's very user friendly, and the happy mask seal face is so cute.
I want to make this machine my buddy. I need him in my life.
Quick question, he told me that I should clean the mask seal with a little of my face wash, and a washcloth, gently washing and rinsing it with the cloth, daily, and not remove the headgear, so I don't have to mess with it so much, and also that once in a while I could remove the mask from the headgear and clean the whole thing. Is he right?
I got a little skin redness on the side of my nose from using the mask before cleaning it.
He also told me to clean the hose once weekly, and that I don't need to use soap on the humidifier cup. From everything I've seen here, I think I should wash and rinse it, but should I do that once weekly when I clean the hose out?

Hi - the head straps will tend to stretch after a while, so washing them will matter in time. As far as the hose goes, a lot of us haven't done them in literal years! There's really no reason to (the air just passes through to you, and not backward), but if you feel the need on occasion, see anything strange inside , certainly feel free to rinse it out.

Or just from using it. You could cut up an old tshirt and make a gasket to go between you and your skin. Padacheek sells wonderful mask liners.I got a little skin redness on the side of my nose from using the mask before cleaning it.
Be proactive and prevent redness. It also feels much nicer on my skin to have fabric (or even a tissue paper) on my skin then the slick mask feel.

So warm water rinse is fine? I wouldn't use the tap water here though, it's high in copper. I'd probably boil some bottled water, let it cool a bit, and then rinse it out and dry it. Why do they have cpap disinfection machines?Julie wrote:Hi - the head straps will tend to stretch after a while, so washing them will matter in time. Washing the straps shrinks them back to size?

cpap disinfection machines exist because there are suckers out there with too much money, so there are hucksters out there who work to separate those suckers from their money.JV1967 wrote: Why do they have cpap disinfection machines?

Sometimes you need to touch the inside bottom of the tank.
If it feels slimy, that is plaque biofilm.
You need to clean it good to kill this scum.

When I look at my headgear and think it looks grungy, I throw it in a lingerie bag and run it through a wash cycle with a small load of just lightweight stuff. No fabric softener, warm water. Then hang it up and let it air dry. Maybe not a perfect way to do it, but it gets the oils out far better than trying to hand wash.

I might have to have a mask re-fit in a day or two, according to the DME, because of the hissing leaks a few times in the night, and... wow, farty mcfartypants from this thing. Too a bus ride to Aerophagia city.

Any water that's safe to drink is good enough for cleaning CPAP equipment. Even if it is low quality water, your CPAP equipment won't be affected.JV1967 wrote:So warm water rinse is fine? You do want to use distilled water for filling the humidifier, but even low quality drinking water is fine for cleaning. When you use water to fill the humidifier, the crud gets concentrated as it evaporates.
