Re: What happened - AHI spike.

Asking "what happened"...without indicating what specific machine, mask, pressure settings, type of events...etc, is like calling an auto repair shop and telling the mechanic my car won't start..and asking "what's the matter with it." I have my machine and mask info in profile. I will look at OSCAR.

Re: New Member - Struggling With CPAP

I have been doing a bit better with sleep. I’m a notoriously terrible sleeper. Toss and turn a lot. My issue isn’t falling asleep. It’s staying asleep. These are my recent things I’ve done which help: Increased melatonin to 10 mg. I have heard various things like less is more, etc. I’m taking 10 and...

What happened - AHI spike.

I’m back with CPAP after not using a long time. I was doing ok for almost a week since starting back. New mask I mostly like. Having some issues with headgear slipping. But then something went awry last night. I struggled with breathing with mask on. After a couple of terrible hours, I took it off. ...

Re: Finally starting CPAP with a few questions....

Once it's in auto mode, you could set a high pressure of e.g. 12 to see how things go for a while - I hope you're using SleepyHead to monitor them and give you something to go by if you decide to make changes. That is my plan - to use SleepyHead to monitor and then figure out adjustments. I am curi...

Re: Finally starting CPAP with a few questions....

I thought an advantage to the auto machine is that it will adjust a bit through out the night between set parameters but I don't know that this is the case with a fixed setting. So -- should I start out using CPAP as is with fixed pressure of 7? I was thinking maybe 7 is just a standard setting and...

Finally starting CPAP with a few questions....

Today is the day I received CPAP machine/mask (added to signature). My path to this point has been as follows: emailed doctor that I would like to proceed with sleep study per small discussion I initiated about suspecting OSA; home sleep study done early Mar; results received late Mar - just quick m...

Re: AHI less than 5...Sleep Therapist says 'not to worry'

Btw, your initial post is what motivated me to put up the new POLL: "How do you feel using your xPAP?" It will be interesting to see how other members have responded to their treatment. You may simply need a couple weeks or a couple month's time to allow the therapy to work more fully for you. I wi...

Re: AHI less than 5...Sleep Therapist says 'not to worry'

Adding that sometimes being too focused on AHI seems like watching the clock. I learned a long time ago not to look at clock at night when I wake up because I just get focused on it and it doesn't do any good. It seems your AHI is in good enough range. Overly focusing on a 1 might just increase anxi...

Re: AHI less than 5...Sleep Therapist says 'not to worry'

When you say you don't feel any better, do you mean you are not feeling more rested now? Do you feel sleepy during the day? Has day sleepiness increased, decreased or stayed the same? I know there is a lot of focus on data/numbers here -- and I am just learning all of that. I also think how we feel ...

He said he is going to "definitely install the software". Why post all this rigmarole? If we can see some data, the speculation may prove foolish.
Rigmarole really? Posting to encourage someone and discussing restful sleep is rigmarole. Allrighty then.

Re: New to CPAP Woes

Waking once a night verses three times a night -- I wouldn't overly focus on that. How do you feel during the day? Were you tired during the day pre CPAP? Or are you more tired now post CPAP? There isn't necessarily a correlation between how many times we wake up (of which we are aware) and energy/s...

Using/trying new masks?

I am waiting for CPAP machine, which is supposed to arrive maybe end of week. The mask we discussed over the phone is a nasal pillow mask. I think that will likely be my best choice. I am a side sleep and also want as little as possible on my face. Well now I have a pretty horrible cold (or allergie...

Re: From diagnosis to DME with no inbetween?

This has been an interesting thread to read and I have been curious about the various paths people have taken. Mine went like this... I started seeing new doctor (a nurse practitioner) in 11/14. I knew I had a few health issues to get sorted. I had put it all on back burner because I am a busy perso...

Re: sleep apnea and nyquil

I sometimes take Nyquil when I can't sleep. Even my doctor said it was ok to do every once in a while. For me, it's not just the antihistamine. It's the combo of antihistamine and alcohol (even though it's a small bit of alchohol). They do sell Nyquil as a sleep remedy, but there is not alcohol in i...

Re: Restless sleeper w/ few minor health issues new to CPAP

I got my CPAP machine on Thursday and a nuclear stress test on Friday that shows possible SVT. I believe they're connected and hope the CPAP machine will repair some damage I know that has been done to my heart from sleep apnea. I just came from appt from cardiologist and she said most definitely s...
