S9 VPAP Auto - Can it auto turn on just by breathing in?

Post by dkeller » Mon Mar 30, 2015 7:46 am

Husband has had his first PAP machine, an S9 VPAP auto, a week now, and I've been tinkering with the settings every couple of nights to improve his quality of sleep. One setting the hubby said the DME programmed in was where it turned on automatically just by breathing into the mask. Apparently I changed that. And I have no idea how to turn that function back on. He still struggles with getting used to his high pressure and takes off the mask several times during the night. Then he puts it back on half asleep and wants it to just turn on without having to press any buttons and fully wake up. I know this is minor, but if anyone knows what I'm talking about, it would be helpful to remedy.

Thank you!

On the S9 the feature for automatic on with just a few breaths is call SmartStart in the clinical setup menu area.

Note that if lower pressures are used with some masks the machine may have a hard time sensing that a human is on the other end and it won't auto on. Sometimes a few big deep breaths and exhales will help in that regard.

turning leak alert on will disable smartstart on a vpap auto. so, turn off leak alert, if you turned it on, then turn on smartstart.
