I wondered too how to set the pressure on the vpap.
Thanks
Do you plan to reuse the mask? You would definitely want to sanitize the mask if you reuse them. There are links to the ResMed sanitation guidelines for hoses, masks, and water tanks in the Useful Links in my signature line at the bottom of this post.

When you get the machine in your hands, let's figure out what kind of water tank you have in the S9 machine. Some of the masks can be sanitized more easily than others. A new "dishwashable" S9 tank is around $40 online. Even the "standard" uncleanable tanks can be opened up and cleaned thoroughly by hand.

Replace the air filters just for the heck of it. They're cheap.

As for the machine itself, in theory, you don't need any cleaning of that Just dust it off, check it for cleanliness. Maybe wipe the exterior surfaces off.

How long will the machine have sat unused by the time you get it? An awful lot of the germs that might become airborne and be of some possible concern in general don't live for very long on a clean, dry surface. However, as I said, in theory, you don't need to clean the machine itself. Run it for a few minutes with no filters and no hose to try and blow some dust out when you first get it.

I hope you requested the manual, there's a bunch of settings, and the manual helps explain them, many of them you probably won't need to change from factory defaults, but it's nice to know what they do and how to change them if you want to

Since the original poster has had their question answered, I wondered if one of you could explain to me when a doctor would tell you to get a Vpap? What does it do differently from a cpap and bipap? I know centrals can be involved here (I had 3, so not really an issue for me that I can see). Just trying to understand a bit.

VPAP is a brand name of Resmed. Philips Respironics calls their BiPap. Both are variations of BiLevel machines of some sort and can be basic, autos and there are higher levels like ST, ASV etc...

vpaps and bipaps are made by different companies, that's it. like ford and chevy, both pickup trucks, just different companies.

Yes, "VPAP" and "BiPAP" are the names of Bi-Level machines from different companies (ResMed and P/R). But, they can also deliver higher pressures than the CPAP/APAP machines and offer a wider range of inhale and exhale pressures.
They can also be set to straight CPAP mode pressures, if needed.
A doctor would prescribe them if certain conditions presented themselves during the sleep studies and titrations (like aerophagia and centrals to name a couple).

I have been using a regular remstar one cpap machine so if I could go to a vpap machine and set my pressure at 10 is this going to make a difference on my treatment? This machine is a used vpap machine S9 auto set H5i humidifier. I am trying to understand how this affects my treatment. The person who had the machine had COPD and he was a smoker. I have cleaned and cleaned the machine even bought the control III disinfection solution to make sure it was safe. The tubing is climateline tubing which I understand is supposed to prevent rainout. I am still learning about all the options on it to make sure I know how to use it. Thanks

it would be less confusing if you simply referred to it as "s9 vpap auto", adding the word 'set' in there is confusing because the one machine with the word 'set' in the name is a completely different machine.

Sounds like a machine that could benefit from a tear down and cleaning or replacing the stinky bits.

I am now using the used vpap auto machine in the cpap mode. The H5 humidier uses a lot more distilled water than my old humidifier. I am not getting dry mouth as much. I really like the machine if automatically comes on when you breath into the mask and when you take it off it goes off by itself. I am still learning about the machine but am really liking it. Thanks for the tips on how to clean it
