Re: [Poll] Do you use anything to help keep your mouth closed?
I am a knuckle dragging mouth breather, which I blame on 40 years of a horribly deviated septum (ENT Doc said, "I've seen worse, but not much."). Ten years ago a septoplasty and turbinate reduction made it possible to breathe through my nose alone, wow what a difference! Old habits die hard. With CP...

Or you could wear just the mask when he comes to the door. Guarantee he will like the mask, if he sees it at all!

Re: Question about 30 day mask return policy
Around here, they appear on Craig's list with notice of returns, or sleep lab use only imprinted on them. If they asked a decent price for them, and not close to list for them, I would probably take them up on a sale or two. A little alcohol would disinfect them fine.

You could also try the in-line filters that sponsor carries. Will not hurt and will at least let you see if something you are breathing in via CPAP is the issue, although I suspect it is just allergies. This is from someone that is a regular snot factory!

Re: Who is good at reading Spirometry results?
Sorry to hear of your woes. I will also affirm that you need to see a pulmonologist, as an asthma patient myself. I had a hideous cough for years before finally doing so myself. My internist went through several rounds of antibiotics and steriods like you mention for a productive cough that left me ...

Re: Done with APRIA!!!
When I picked up my machine Apria couldn't give me a straight answer "Is this a purchase or a lease?" They use only one form, no pricing nor details. No visit with a respiratory therapist, just the machine and a DVD and "here you go". Mask harness was too small for my head (crushed the nasal piece ...

You mean homeoquackery? The dilutions they scheme up would be funny were it not for it being taken seriously by so many.

Re: phillips respironics sleep mapper
I use Sleep Mapper on the iPad for a quick check of my stats, but it really is wimpy, especially when compared to Sleepyhead, which is easy to download and use. My solution to the Sleep Mapper not being up to date is to press the button on the cell modem piggybacked on to the unit. Just hold until a...

Re: Asthma worsening since beginning CPAP
I never experienced reflux symptoms, either (I have had heartburn only twice in 50+ years, and I love spicy/acidic food!), so I was surprised when my pulmonologist told me I had reflux or GERD. Prior to this I had a daily need for the rescue inhaler and a nasty, productive cough that made me sound l...

Re: In line filters make too much noise
We breathe small amounts of bacteria in all day long (mostly aerosolized), and unless you are sleeping near a sewage treatment plant (I worked at one for a time, funny enough), I would not worry about the CPAP adding that much more to it. for me it seems that the added filtration helps reduce my al...

Re: In line filters make too much noise
As a new CPAP user, my opinion may not be all that useful, but my formal over-education is in microbiology and molecular biology. Unless you have specific needs (or were directed by a physician) to use these filters, I would suggest not use them. We breathe small amounts of bacteria in all day long ...

Re: Asthma worsening since beginning CPAP
The temperature dropped dramatically on Friday down to -28c when I stepped out of the grocery store and took a deep breath without my scarf in front of my mouth and choked. My chest felt tight all evening until I strapped on my mask, cranked up the humidity and put a cotton swab with Tiger balm on ...

Re: Asthma worsening since beginning CPAP
As someone that also just started CPAP four months ago, and a near lifelong asthma patient, I can second the suggestion for a pulmonologist consult. I am lucky in that my sleep doc is also a pulmonary guy, so you might try looking for the same. When I first started the CPAP I had a rise in asthma sy...

Re: POLL: Smartphone Users? What are you using?
HTC One, the older M7 version. Stock Kitkat. After getting an iPad Air, I am longing to switch to iPhone in a year when phone is finally paid off (T-Mobile). I know iOS has its quirks, but Android, while much more flexible, drives me nuts at times. That and we switched to Mac so I like the semi-unif...

Re: Best time of day to do a sinus rinse?
I am a CPAP newbie at three months now, soaking up the knowledge on the board. I have been sinus rinsing for 10+ years now after finally having a septoplasty and turbinectomy, which was mind blowing in being able to really breathe through my nose for the first time. I use the NeilMed squeeze bottle ...
