So I've been having problems with nocturia, and been pretty paranoid about apnea not being the cause. But based on the very generous (and volumnious) advice I received here, I dug into Sleepyhead and after reviewing the data I determined I was having some leakage issues. I'm still waiting on a full face mask (appt is tomorrow), and the chin strap was a disaster, but I figured there must be SOMETHING I can do. So when I went to bed last night I made sure that my mask was on as tight as I could get it and still sleep. It was so tight there was marks on my face over an hour after I woke up. And I also told myself if I woke up at all, and detected my mouth was open in any way, to shut my mouth.
Well wouldn't you know, I only woke up once to pee the whole night. I slept for 9 hours. I dreamed some crazy dreams.
And today I feel the best I've felt in so long I can't remember. The feeling has lasted all day.
So maybe there is something to this CPAP thing after all....
And now I'm open to the idea of taping my mouth. It doesn't seem like a crazy idea at all if I'll feel like this the next day.

Hang in there. It's a matter of finding out what works best for each of us.

You may also want to look into mask liners that will help with the marks left on your face.glowradar wrote:So I've been having problems with nocturia, and been pretty paranoid about apnea not being the cause. Re: Update
To avoid the marks on your face you might try mask liners and/or strap covers, depending on where the marks are located... mask liners are also helpful in minimizing leaks, which might make it unnecessary to have it strapped down so tight. These are available at Pad-A-Cheek: http://www.padacheek.com , and another liner style is RemZzzs, available from our forum sponsors at https://www.cpap.com or from many DMEs. I use the strap covers for the upper straps on my F10, and until I learned about liners, I was afraid I'd never be able to get to sleep with a mask. I tried both liners, padacheek and RemZzzs, found the latter more to my liking but both are good. RemZzzs are a bit quirky, but I like them anyway. They're said to be one-time use, but I've washed and reused them many times.

Re: Update
I use the Air Fit F10 FFm and to ward of the strap marks I used a folded piece of bandana. It actually serves to purposes for me. After my mask is on I cover my eyes with the bandana and tuck it other the top straps and the bottom strap on my sleeping side. My eyes are protected from lights of the tv that my husband has to have on all night and prevents strap marks.

I've always said, you don't have treatment until you can hold in the air needed to splint your airway open. Glad you found it works, the software is the answer to what's really going on.
Also you may find you don't have to overtighten the mask to make it not leak. Jim

Use data to optimize your xPAP treatment!
