Need suggestions on how to deal with rainout

Post by Minky » Thu Mar 26, 2015 10:21 am

I had rainout issues when I started using CPAP this past December. I got advice from this forum, increased the hose temperature to 86 degrees, turned the humidity setting down to 3, used hose covers, both on the Climateline hose and on the P10 hose and put the hose under the covers. I had no issues until last night and I don't know why I'm having issues now. The only thing that is different is that the room may be a bit warmer. We've had the coldest winter that I can remember and yesterday the temperature warmed up to a balmy 40 degrees F. My house thermostat remains at 64, but I'm sure the bedroom was colder than that when it was -5 outside.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I change the humidity setting to Auto?

Thanks very much. I appreciate your help.

I started to find water in my mask when it "warmed up." I gave up and set everything to auto and I've been doing well since then.

Is the water in the mask...the hose...or both?
Using any sort of hose management system which causes the hose to go up before it goes down?

What has the general ambient humidity been since the weather has warmed up? Mine has been higher even without the thunderstorms we have had last couple of days. I suppose it is possible that the fixed humidity delivery of 3 (whatever that give you) along with maybe higher ambient humidity could possibly topple the moisture release point and cause condensation.

I also prefer to just use the "automatic" setting and let the machine sort it out. That way if the ambient humidity is high it knows it doesn't have to add as much moisture and when the air is drier it knows to work harder
and I don't have to worry about figuring out which way to adjust it or what my ambient humidity is and all I do is adjust the temp per my needs...which is warmer in winter and cooler in summer and my nose gets a nice constant delivery that doesn't ever really change and that way the nose is happy and when it is happy I breathe so much better than when it is unhappy.

I just had this problem after almost 1 year of being on the therapy. Turns out (I think anyways) that somehow the humidifier was "defective." Luckily it was under warrantee and I switched it out for a new one, and since I came home with the new one, I have not had rain-out issues.
