Aircurve 10s vs: 10VAuto - Confused Spouse....
Aircurve 10s vs: 10VAuto - Confused Spouse....
Trying to help my wife get her recently prescribed BiPap machine ordered and I have a couple questions.
i dont know all the details of the sleep study yet except they put her on a Cpap machine after 1 hr of the study and then moved her to a bipap machine shortly after that.
Her events in the first hour were 97 and the settings they have recommend on a Bipap machine were 23/17
The sleep Dr prescribed a Resmed Aircurve 10 s machine that they can provide for ~$1800, Given that our insurance does not cover it I price shopped it a bit and found another dealer here in my City that can sell it for $1350 which seems like a good enough price. He however asked why we were not going to get the aircurve 10 vauto since it can be locked into the prescribed settings or allowed to automatically adjust to her needs.
We have not talked to the DR about the auto yet since it is the weekend and figure the more unbiased information we get the better.
SO Ill throw it out to yall, Both machines are the same cost any reason to go with one vs the other?
Thanks in advance.

the *ONLY* reason to get the S as opposed to the Vauto is if you DON'T want the option of changing to auto pressures at some point later.omextreme wrote: Both machines are the same cost any reason to go with one vs the other?
in other words, get the auto.
Get OSCAR
Accounts to put on the foe list: dataq1, clownbell, gearchange, lynninnj, mper!?, DreamDiver, Geer1, almostadoctor, sleepgeek, ajack, stom, mogy, D.H., They often post misleading, timewasting stuff.

I agree with palerider get the auto, it's like getting 3 machines in one. You get Auto, Straight and CPAP mode all in one machine, just select which one you want to use.

The AirCurve 10 S offers 2 modes of operation....cpap and fixed bilevel pressures.
The AirCurve 10 VAuto offers 3 modes of operation...cpap and fixed bilevel AND Auto Adjusting bilevel pressures.
All things being equal....get the AirCurve VAuto simply because it offers that additional mode of operation and you never know when it might come in handy.
Scroll down near the bottom of the page to see the different AirCurve machines then click on the "S" and the "VAuto" to see what they offer.
http://www.resmed.com/us/en/consumer/pr ... vices.html
Think of the "S" as the cpap of bilevel machines with fixed dual pressures and the VAuto as the apap of bilevel machines with auto adjusting dual pressures.
Get the VAuto if you can...never know when that auto adjusting mode might be something that is needed or wanted.

37211 AirCurve 10 VAuto BiLevel is what I would get, if I wanted an AirCurve.
If I was paying out of pocket, I would most likely get the S9 VPAP Auto Bilevel instead as it most likely would be cheaper.
36006 S9 VPAP Auto

Since you don't have insurance, compare the prices you find with the prices at our host cpap.com. Then you will know what a good non-insurance price is. Then negotiate to save as much as you can. The list prices on this stuff when the insurance pays is outrageous.

Re: Aircurve 10s vs: 10VAuto - Confused Spouse....
Thanks for all the replies. I was assuming the VAuto would provide what was prescribed with more flexibility in the future. I will be ordering the VAuto Monday. I plan to order the heated hose for her, anything else we need to look for? The sales rep recommended a higher grade mask then the one that came with the sleep study so that and the heated hose should suffice? (at least to get started?)
Thanks
Thanks

After first night on machine Wife has a question.
She logged 5.33 hours on the unit last night only woke 1 time when she threw off the mask. She woke to sore ribs/chest this AM, Is this normal for un-acclimated users?
Thanks

Don't know how normal it is, but it sure happened to me. Took almost six weeks to get over it.

omextreme - that was a great number of hours for a first night! Did your wife feel any more rested the next day? How has she been doing since then?
Many people prefer a nasal pillow system to a face mask. With the Breeze pillows I use, the only points of contact are the back of my head and my nostrils. You wife may need to try multiple masks to find what works best for her.
It's definitely a process with many variables. Some people adapt very quickly and some take a while and need to experiment with different settings, masks, chinstraps, humidity, etc. The important thing is to keep at it and ask for help if needed. This is a wonderful place to get support.
May I suggest installing the free SleepyHead program so you can both look at the data? See Pugsy's links at the top of the forum for instructions. Being able to see how the machine is constantly looking for issues and adjusting to compensate can be very comforting.
