Sesame oil for raw sinuses?

Post by Inspectorgene » Thu Mar 05, 2015 7:54 am

Anyone use/try sesame oil for raw sinuses?
I have been on cpap since last October.
Used WISP until about month ago and went to pillows, Airfit P10.
Pressure setting of 12. Heated tubing on 2, humidity on 3, use full tank of distilled water every night.
Have not had full blown nose bleed, but have raw sinuses and have blood clots and blood every morning in nose.
Was happening with the WISP but has become more pronounced with the P10.
Using saline spray several times a day.
Google found info. pointing to sesame oil as relief for sinus problems.
Any advice?
As always, thanks in advance. This forum is a great source of info.

No. Rare, but potentially dangerous. Google lipoid pneumonia.

Best to use Ayr Gel. Google it - available at most chain drug stores. Ayr Gel contains no fats, so no danger of lipoid pneumonia.

I use Ayr Gel occasionally. Great stuff.

Anything with oil as an ingredient should not be placed in the nostrils. Look at the ingredient list on the package or google "vicks ingredients".

The exception is if you have watched all six seasons of Mad Men, you are allowed to use Vicks.

Vicks should.be used with respect.
It is effective against fungal infections of the toenails, but never assume it is safe to use in sensitive areas.
Or do; and post video.

Ponaris is good stuff, it has natural oils and NASA used it for the Astronauts in space.......good enough for them, good enough for me!

I would stay away from oils in the nostrils. Astronaut or no.

Ayr Gel has a tiny amount of oil.

I use both AYR Gel and Ponaris, both products for years. The Ponaris is fine, it soothes and also is a natural decongestant, it's great stuff and goes all the way through nasal passages and into throat, so covers more area than AYR gel which is also a good product. Ponaris has been a proven product since 1931. Tried and true. Selected by NASA by Doctors so I think they know what they are doing.

Freaking awesome! I have watched every episode of Mad Men more than once!

My late father and I both had/have a problem with Vicks. It's an addiction. I don't use it at night so I don't ruin my masks but I have a jar in the kitchen, living room, and a back up in the medicine cabinet. I use it during the day when I am at home. Not constantly but daily. Blame it on my grandmother who put it on our chests and even the bottom of our feet as kids. I don't go crazy with it. Just a dab around the nare openings. I don't even know why I do it! My husband hates the smell of it. It makes him queasy.

I think on the openings is fine. The reason for warnings about oil in the nostrils is it could migrate into the lungs where it causes an inflammation of the air sacs. The oil persists there for a very long time, so you could get buildup from using it over time.

I am probably going to skip the seventh season on cable and wait for it to appear on NetFlix. Do you have any idea how long this will take to show up on NetFlix?

Seems like Netflix is a season behind though they may be catching up since they have their own series now. The longest I wait for MM is dvr'ing it for about 15 minutes then starting the play function so I can skip the commercials. I just love that show. It takes me back to my childhood.

Lol, hubby only home a few days a week so I don't try to get rid of him. I miss him when he's on the road.

I've heard those rumors too. Haven't seen video proof though!

Thanks for the replies and ideas so far.

In the meantime, called the Sleep Lab where I had my sleep study.
Their only recommendation was go back to full face mask.
NOT an option as far as I am concerned.

Just got back from the drugstore with some AYR gel. Quickest and easiest to get. Gonna try that first.

Next, I may become an astronaut. **winks**

Holding off on the sesame oil.

I use sesame oil for flavoring Asian foods quite a bit and it has a very strong odor that lasts and lasts. It tastes wonderful tho on rice dishes, salads (with rice vinegar) and even in marinades. It's great for many types of food, however I always have to wash my hands when I get any on them or I smell like sesame oil all night.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.
