My dentist actually gave me a nice little zipper bag full of Biotene stuff to test out before I bought it (because the whole line is a bit pricy, but it works, so it's worth it). I've always been a mouth breather at night, and am now Diabetic, so I get the dry mouth from several sources. One of the things that happens is that the gums dry out, and gunk forms on the teeth. When you get up and around, and saliva starts flowing, the gums then tend to go back to normal, and that traps gunk below the gumline. My dad got periodontal disease from it, and had a lot of expensive treatments to save his teeth. He's on Biotene now too. Their mouth rinse is awesome, has no sugar or alcohol, and dissolves that sticky gunk on your teeth. I also love that their toothpaste doesn't get all foamy.Islandwoman wrote:I have not tried. My dentist suggested xylitol gum for dry mouth because of medication. It works well but not useful at night. Thanks for the heads up I will try. Dentist also said dry mouth encourages cavities, I was having trouble with tiny ones but none sine gum.
The upper airways are also the passageway for food and drink headed to the stomach. It's very unlikely that any of the Xylimelt is making it to your lungs.
huh. i've been using xylimelts for three years and have never had this problem. i'm not arguing with you or saying you're wrong. just saying it hasn't happened to me.help123 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 21, 2018 5:14 amI wake up by coughing badly, never happened to me before I starting using this product. I think that before it melts completely it turns smaller and smaller until the little chunks are barley attached to your gums. Those chunks can't hold to the gums anymore and break off, when they do, they go to your airways (not stomach). Probably more so, if you are snoring. That would explain the severity of the cough and the timing (5:30, 6:00 AM). I use disks before I go to bed. I love these tables otherwise, my mouth is not dry when I wake up, it feels moist and sweet. Yet, the cough is bothering me. A feeling of slightly heavy chest too. It goes away quickly, and they say on the box that is is OK to breath it in accidentally as it will melt away inside your lungs. Still, they don't say if it is harmless over a long period of time. Let's say you'd rather cough a bit than have a dry mouth, but what if it damages your lungs over 1-3 year of usage. That concerns me. What are your thoughts?
