Dreams and Migraines

Post by Guest » Wed Feb 25, 2015 2:17 pm

I noticed that the CPAP mask which covers my nose and mouth dries me out. I have tried other versions of this mask, nasal pillows etc. Adjusted my moisture as well. I get frustrated at times and remove the mask to sleep better. I usually opt to use it before the night is over. Surprisingly, I have multiple dreams when not wearing the mask. Is this related to a lack of oxygen?

Bazaar dreams of escaping in different settings.

Other thought: is sleep apnea related to migraines, seizures, dizziness (I had a MRI recently which checks out fine.)

When you are not using CPAP while sleeping, you stop breathing and you wake up to restart the breathing. When you wake up, you become aware of dreams that you might not otherwise be aware of.

Solution: Use your CPAP at all times you are sleeping.

Glad to hear you get away. If not, I hope you can write us from captivity.

I would love to go again to Istanbul, but have to settle for bazaar dreams due to my health and advanced age.

Your mask is not drying you out, your open mouth is, which is why you have a full face mask to in the first place, but it may not be the right one, or the right size, or have not been fitted well for you, so tell us what you have and maybe we can help. Are you using the humidifier? How is it working otherwise (besides not helping the dryness)?

Which way? Too much humidity can make nasal congestion worse........which leads to more mouth-breathing. Even with a full face mask, it WILL cause dry mouth.
Are you doing nasal cleansing before bedtime so you can breathe through your nose? If not, I would strongly suggest it.

"Bizarre" (correct spelling) dreams are typical of oxygen-deprived sleep.
Many who have had a history with migraines have reported that they improved or went away after getting effective CPAP therapy.

For what it's worth, I was suffering from increasing frequency of migraines and related headaches over the past 5 or so years. Went to Neurologist, was on meds, yadda yadda. After being on CPAP for a month the headaches were reduced greatly and now at one year I have had 2 in 5 months. That's my observation--draw your own conclusion. But as far as I'm concerned, Bad sleep was my main trigger.

And as far as dreams go, they occur at the lightest sleep, closest to consciousness. If you need therapy and don't get it, then you never get far from that state and remember more dreams. (Also my own observation.)
