Question about pressure for new user
First night of CPAP last night, 9.5 hours of usage and Sleepyhead reports AHI of .21. Didn't feel like I slept that well. Mask fit was not great,, but might have been that headgear was just too tight and will adjust tonight.
My question is about machine setup. My pressure is set at fixed 10. The machine my DME provided is an S9 Autoset. Would I be more comfortable changing the machine to autoset mode? If so what pressures would I use?
Also they have ERP turned off. Seems like turning it on would also make things more comfortable? Any suggestions.

Re: Question about pressure for new user
.21 is really good for an AHI, so I would probably stay at the set pressure for a bit. You can turn EPR on and see if you like it. I have mine set to EPR 2 with my pressure at a constant 11cm. YMMV.

Re: Question about pressure for new user
Try turning EPR on and experiment with each setting to see which setting feels more comfortable.
I would try using EPR first before changing to apap mode as I think that even if you used apap mode you might still have some discomfort exhaling and still want EPR anyway.

Which mask are you using? I don't see it in your equipment profile.TeamPCBeach wrote:Mask fit was not great

Re: Question about pressure for new user
I have a WISP mask. I felt like I adjusted it a couple times in the middle of the night because it was hitting in on the bottom of my nose. When i got up, I has some soreness on the bridge and bottom of my nose. I broke my nose as a kid so have a bump on the bridge and that is where it hit.

Re: Question about pressure for new user
I see that you have a desaturation of 79% listed. Is that before or after therapy? Also is that value during sleep or while you're awake? Depending when that occurs could account for a draggy feeling.TeamPCBeach wrote:First night of CPAP last night, 9.5 hours of usage and Sleepyhead reports AHI of .21. That was pre-CPAP during 1st night sleep study. During titration study PulseOX didn't drop below 90%.

Re: Question about pressure for new user
2 nights of CPAP done Turned on ERP (2) yesterday. Seemed to make sleep more comfortable as exhales were easier. Might have made the machine a little noisier, but it was nothing that bothered us. Mask is an issue. Only two nights using it and the bridge of my nose is bright red with a small open sore. The WISP mask which sits on the nose and does not have a support to the forehead clearly is not going to work for me. Will talk to the DME tomorrow about a replacement?
I know masks are very individualized, but any suggestions on what is better for a larger nose?
Also the modem on the S9 always shows No Network. We have good cell service so not sure what the issue is there either.

Re: Question about pressure for new user
I prefer use of pillow masks. They are self sealing so the straps are not tight. Your AHI is very good but you are likely not sleeping well because of your mask. It took me a few months before I slept well.

Re: Question about pressure for new user
The Wisp did the same thing to me. I switched to the P-10 and went up a size....from Med. to large with the pillows (very important) and it gives me a great seal. It is the most comfortable mask I have ever worn....I have been on C-pap for 15 years.
Good luck in finding "The One". Masks are such an individual thing and finding the one that willl work for you is probably the most difficult part of starting treatment.
Our forum sponsers, cpap.com carry all of the masks that are out there. I recommend that you take a look at their site.
Hope this helps!
