so...if you get the prescription in hand, you can go ANYWHERE for a machine and the DME that's dinking you around will be out. I'd suggest checking with your insurance company and finding out who else you can use...maybe our host? I could use them with insurance, but they're out of network (why wouldn't they be? can't have IN network of that quality, right? )

You could also inform the DME that you've now got your Rx IN HAND and are willing to find someone ELSE to spend your time and money with. Maybe they'll get off their arses and do something productive.

Just a couple ideas.

I would walk into the DME's place of business with a pillow and blanket, and indicate you will be
staying there until they get their a$$es in gear, or you die in their office! Have a voice recorder on.

It's insurance driven as to what documentation is required to show why a bipap is needed. If the dme doesn't have the documentation they don't get paid and the pt is held liable for the costs. The information has to given to the dme by the drs office. Oftentimes it's the drs office that is the hold up not the dme.

It is the dr that's the hold up right now.

Then I suppose you need to go into the doctor's office and offer to hand carry the document to the DME.
They may have just "forgotten". At least I bet that's what they will say.

Keep the pillow and blankie with you...ask, "so...Where's my room?"

First time around it took me about a week from sleep test to machine. When I had my split night sleep test I notified the lab that I was leaving town in a few days and would never see the doctor that ordered the test again. I "asked" if I could stop by and pick up the report. We arranged a time and I pulled into their parking lot and they came out and handed the report to me while my engine was still running.
When I got to my destination, I called a friend who was an MD. I brought him the report and told him I wanted a Resmed S9 Autoset. He said great, that is the same machine he used. He called his DME, Gave me the address and I picked up the machine the Next day.
Second time around, New sleep doc arranged an overnight titration study for ASV. Set an appointment for about 3 weeks out. A few days later they called and asked if I would like to come in early because they had a cancellation. I did. When I was there I let them know I would like the results STAT. After a couple calls daily for a few days they emailed me my report. I called my favorite DME Crapria. The only in network DME with my current insurance. A couple days latter I picked up my PRS1 960 ASV machine. About 2 weeks from first sleep doctor visit to new machine.
When ONE phone call a day does not get results, move to several calls a day, and always insist on copies of all results and prescriptions.

There is no reason for it to take so long. My Dr got my results back that I was having, on average, 95 events an hour and within 2 days I had went for titration and had my machine that was set at 15. I have a wonderful Dr. who pushed everything through and got things done. You may need a new Dr. .... Just my opinion. Good luck

Called dr today to see if they did there part. They said they sent dme the info on the 15th. Then said they would call the dme. I called 2 hours later. Nurse told me that dme needed one chart and she didn't know it. So I figured it would be a few more days before the approval goes through. Received another call from dme, the new machine was there and I needed to schedule a time to pick it up.

Considering the dme doesn't carry any equipment in stock, there parent company locate doesn't allow them to stock anything, how long have they had the machine sitting and waiting

Picked up vpap today. It is a resmed aircurve 10 vpap auto. They did not have the correct mask that the dr wrote on the rx. They tried to give me a Quattro fx. I did not take it. The rep said she would order the correct mask today

The saga continues. On Feb 3 I called dme to do a mask exchange. I was only 3 weeks into there 30 day trial. I am trying to switch the large airfit f10 for a medium. I have called the local dme and the lincare regional office multiple times since. It has been 20 days and still no mask
