That dreaded moment machine is broke

Post by Bill44133 » Thu Feb 26, 2015 12:11 pm

Well, I had that dreaded moment. 3AM the machine is beeping and says service required

Lucky for me I have 2 machines.. Except now I am down to NO backups. Maybe a backup for the backup is the next purchase.

sigh

A year ago I got a backup for my main ASV and two weeks later my primary machine went down and was in the shop for THREE WEEKs. I caught a lucky break in this case since I didn't miss a single night of therapy... now I always make sure I have a backup, even if it's just an older machine with lots of hours on it.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Like normal you are correct..

I used to think having a backup for the backup was silly... In my case with a 140 AHI I would never attempt to sleep without
the machine. God forbid If something happens to my machine tonight I am totally screwed.
Hopefully, the local repair shop I found will get it fixed ASAP.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Get the Clinicians manual here : http://apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-press ... tup-manual

That's my biggest fear as my machine has close to 17,000 hours on it and the on/off switch doesn't work correctly. I had a back up or so I thought but then found out it was turned over with water in the humidifier and left for months. Dead and not fixable. Waiting on a cpap now so I can put my high hour one away for an emergency before it quits!
Morbius, are you bored?

Well tough luck for me... The machine that broke is System One 750P Bi-PAP. I bought it in May/June 2014 from a member
of this form for $200.00 shipping included. I used the machine for 1 month Back in September for the entire month and a few days in October and then started using it again the 1st of February. So I got probably 2 months of use out of the machine.

The local repair shop called me and advised that machine needs a new blower and also a software upgrade. All this to the
tune of $580.64 to repair. I am not sure if this is a fair price or not. I am also not sure if I should even bother fixing it..

Any one have any thoughts on what I should do?

If you've only got a couple of hundred into it, you've got a little "wiggle room" on repair costs. I wouldn't turn it over to a "local repair shop".

That is exactly one of the steps I took. I sent him private message, and he is gonna do some checking on the parts for me.
I had a feeling you would tell me to do that.

I was thinking that maybe the machine is jinxed so I should just forget it.

Are you telling me that I'M "predictable", Bill???

Maybe it just needs a little TLC.

Yes you are predictable and smart.

Accurate was $250.00 cheaper.. So I think I am going to ship it out to them.
