Night #1 was so-so, A couple of issues

Post by NMchop » Thu Feb 26, 2015 4:59 pm

Well, I knew it wouldn't be a cake walk, but night #1 is in the book.

Some here suggested I wear the mask before going to bed and I did. I set put he equipment in my living room about 8:30 p.m.
About 10:30 p.m. I fell asleep in the recliner and woke up at 12:30 a.m. so that was a good sign.

Relocated the CPAP to the bedroom, took about 30 minutes to fall asleep at I'm guessing 1 a.m. Woke up at 3 a.m. grasping at the mask.
The full blast of 14 was on and for whatever reason I woke up and took the mask off before I could think.

Back to sleep at 3:30 a.m. Woke up at 7 a.m. with the area under my Simplus Full Face mask (pretty small) just FREEZING. Like I had
iced my nose and chin. So I woke up and tore the mask off. Not sure what that was all about, anybody know? The freezing face sensation?

My left elbow also was SORE and I had the hose imprint all over my left arm...I've never had a sore arm when sleeping.

I usually am a slide sleeper but spent the whole night on my back (I think). Last night.

I don't know how to read the data yet, so I guess that's a place to start, need to learn how to do that by reading up on my equipment
and through posts here.

I did lay back down and nap some without the mask though I didn't feel bad at 7 a.m.

I think I slept for 2 hours, 2 hours and 3 hours in between waking up. I didn't feel anxious going to sleep and it's easy to breath when the
Cpap is at 7 and ramping up, but at 14, it does feel like a leaf blower is on my face (when I wake up). I've been asleep before it's got to
14 every time except when I was sitting in the lazy boy, "getting used" to having the gear on.

Thanks for reading, I guess the main question is why did I wake up with the are my mask covered so cold? That was something that didn't happen
at the titration or the couple of other times I slept last night.

Is your hose the regular non heated hose or the heated hose (it has a black coupling on the end where it attaches to the humidifier)?
What settings for the humidifier and the heated hose (if your hose is the heated hose)?

I have had more than a couple of nights like that. Hang in there. Uh, freezing face. First thing that comes to mind is mask leaks. Air is colder than body temp, and when it flows out the mask, it feels cold. If the mask is changing positions a lot and reseats, the area where the mask came into contact with skin may cool off, as well. Don't really know anything about your set-up; need to put stuff into your profile, because a lot more in depth people are headed your way, and that is what they will want, to dig into it more. They will surely tell you to download software, if your machine is capable of providing more than compliance.

CONGRATS! .... very good for a first night, it can only get better from there
It appears you have a good positive attitude about it. Keep up the good work.
If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

I actually slept for 2 hours a few minutes and then 3 hours...interesting sleepy head! Still, 5 hours with an AHI of 4 vs. my 96.1 on my sleep lap
report. I guess this therapy is golden on that front.

I'll get to the questions, I need to go look at my hose but I remember it having "grey" connection to the machine and mask.

Thanks for your replies.
