Ears & head gear

Post by blugoat » Tue May 27, 2014 11:54 am

I use a Mirage FX small nasal mask. The problem I am having is the head gear rides up under my ears. So, I have to adjust the head gear so it rest on my ear lobes. Other wise I have it up under my lobes or it folds the lobes over & either way it hurts. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Can you cut a little 1/2" thick piece of foam from somewhere and wear it (x 2 of course) underneath?

When using the Wisp, I had to remove my earrings every night to avoid a painful crease on my earlobes.
I reasoned that trimming the headgear would just allow it to slide up higher;
meaning that my ear would still be pinched, but then the cushion would jam into my nares.
My ears are fairly tough without being squished by an ear wire, but if not,
I would have put a little fleece between the ear and the headgear--if that works, cutting may not be needed.

Tape? The gentle medical type, cloth or paper. Either between to tape the straps to your skin, or just on your skin where it is rubbing. I've found medical tape to have quite a few purposes since starting CPAP. My favorite so far is to put a piece on my nose (with Lanolin under it) to prevent a red mark. The added Lanolin seems to do even better than tape alone, plus makes the tape come off really easily. Best wishes.

Anyone have hints to keep full face headgear from cutting around ear?

I vote for the strap covers at padacheek. Been wearing them for years.

Move your ears? I'm convinced my ears don't sit at the same relative spot as the people who build pap masks. When I get it figured out how to move the ears, I'll let you know.

Happens to me too, and it drives me nuts! I have somewhat lower ears than most--part of a genetic syndrome. I haven't done this yet, but you could try sewing a little bit of the stiff side of Velcro tape (hook side) inside the back of the headgear where it rests on your hair. That might keep it from slipping. Worked well on my Swift FX headgear, but I haven't tried it with the Wisp.

I use the padacheek strap covers and they are so comfortable. I even use the forehead one.

I ended up with the Resmed Airfit P10, since there are no straps below my ears.
My conclusion is that some of the mask designers wouldn't know what an ear looked like if it bit them!

While folding my glasses, it becomes painfully obvious to me that my ears are not at the same level.
Then I learn that no one's face or body is perfectly symmetrical.
Do mask designers know about this? Apparently not.

are you sure that it's not just that your glasses are crooked?
