I'd like to try a total face mask
I am in need of a new mask and I'd like to try a total face mask after seeing one in use. I'm hopeful there is a user who has an old one they would part with for free or cheap so that I might try it out without having to use up my quarterly mask allotment on something I might not tolerate.

Re: I'd like to try a total face mask
Might check with Sheriff to see if he has an old mask you can try. He used to use a total face mask all the time but I think he recently changed to a different type.
He may see this thread and respond...if he doesn't just send him a private message and tell him I sent you.
I had one that was donated but it went to a new home last month. I don't know if that person decided about it.
It was one of the FitLife masks which I think is what Sheriff uses.

Re: I'd like to try a total face mask
Thanks, Pugsy. I remember trying several masks donated from forum users when I first started pap therapy and couldn't find a mask I liked.

Just a tip - they're noted to leak a lot for many people.

Julie's right...those total masks are notorious for leaking.
I tried the FitLife myself before sending it on to its new home. I couldn't ever get it to seal well enough to even remotely trying to sleep with it. I think I had a good seal for maybe 15 seconds and then things went to hell and I never could get it to seal again and finally said to hell with it..but the 15 seconds wasn't bad. I was especially interested on how it felt to the eyes but to my surprise that was a non issue totally. Not a big deal at all and my pressures aren't all that low when starting the night.
And the one I had was a size small which did fit my face so I know that it wasn't a case of poor size choice.
Due to the costs of those suckers...for sure try to beg, borrow or steal one from someone if only wanting to experiment.
Even using the return insurance from cpap.com isn't all that great of an option because the insurance isn't cheap.

Re: I'd like to try a total face mask
Okay. I asked because my daughter was in critical care last month and they placed her on bipap (before ventilator) and the total face mask was the only one she could tolerate. I'd try that one but she didn't take it with her when she was discharged. But it made me curious about them and if it would be a good solution for mouth breathing with a nasal mask. Chin strap didn't work.

Re: I'd like to try a total face mask
Kathy,
I have a Mirage Quatro Full Face mask that you can have; if you want you can send me $ 5 for postage.
Size is Medium.
If it leaks too much you may want to use some liners. But if it does not work don't throw it away - it is a rather expensive mask and somebody else here may want to try it.
I am sending you a PM.

Re: I'd like to try a total face mask
Be careful when using a hospital mask. Some of them don't have built in exhaust vents and can actually kill you if you hook them up to a CPAP machine.KatyDidAgain wrote:Okay. She's looking for a total face mask, which is different from a full face mask. A total face mask covers the eyes, mouth and nose.rebe wrote:Kathy,
