Do Many of You Have the Ramp Feature Turned Off?

I used mine for about a week, then stopped. Its a bit like masks, everyone is different, what works for some doesn't work for others.

The most important thing OP is you do what YOU feel is best for yourself

I use mine every night.

I don't use it. I would prefer an inverse ramp.... always start out higher and then drop to the auto start level.

No ramp for me. When I first had a machine with a ramp, I tried it just one time and fount that I had difficulty getting enough air until the pressure rose to normal. In my opinion
the ramp is a useless feature.

... but I do use what you would prefer tim. The mask fit check feature on my device starts at a higher pressure then drops to the starting pressure after 30 seconds or so. That way I know the mask is properly adjusted for the higher pressure so I don't get woken later in the night when the pressure goes up and the mask starts leaking.

I have not used ramp for a couple of years now. I started out with it. I have been at this for 4+ years now.

Used the ramp for the first few weeks then turned it off.

For the first four days I had ramp set to AUTO, and I found that I was feeling kind of suffocated, and when I woke up with the much higher pressure blowing I felt much better. So I decided to turn it off -- but I screwed that up! (Does anybody else think that the A10 display is stupid? It's at the wrong angle and I can't see it sitting on the edge of the bed. I sleep on the right side of the bed and I'm right handed so if I lie down to see the screen I'm lying on my right arm and working the buttons awkwardly with my left.) I accidentally turned the ramp to be 45 minutes long instead of OFF. And I was up twice in the night, and according to Sleepyhead I had a snorefest with really ugly breathing waveforms in the flow rate through all three ramps -- which of course totaled 2 hours and 15 minutes of 6:35 of sleep -- 1/3 of the night!

I figure if I have to put up with The Alien on my face to sleep, It's stupid to not have therapeutic pressure while it's on there!

I only used the ramp feature for about the first month or so. I do not use it now and it's going on 5 years on CPAP.

If you do decide to continue using the ramp, you might want to set the minimum ramp pressure to 6 - anything much less than that and people tend to complain that they aren't getting enough air during the early part of the ramp period.

no, that's Billy Connolly on his cross country ride some years back. I don't have one of those, just thought it was a neat vehicle

Most new patients we set up use the ramp for the first few days/weeks then if we see them again or talk to them a lot of them will say they are used to the pressure and dont need the ramp anymore. Some pts that are on pretty high pressures >16 cwp will continue to use the ramp feature for a long time if not forever.

Just to chime in...

I have the ramp set the same as my minimum EPAP. Sometimes the high-end pressures wake me up and when they do, this allows me to "reset" the machine without power cycling.

I thought it a little silly at first but it made total sense once he explained that after two hip replacement surgeries he is still able to ride a Harley.
