Hubby's 1st Night - self titration

Post by Ogeo » Sat Jan 31, 2015 11:12 am

Equipment: REMstar Auto A-flex 560P
Settings: 5-20
Flex: 3
Humidifier: 2
Heated Hose: 2

When I started in Sept I had the sleep study and 2 titration studies. My pressures were set and I haven't changed them as they are working for me. So for my husband -

Here is his first night. He only tolerated 4 hrs before taking it off. He had a little trouble breathing and is very tired this morning. I am going to take off the ramp tonight. What are your recommendations?

Hubby's equipment: PR System One REMstar Auto A-Flex model 560P. Doctor's orders left it open 5-20. We changed it to 8-20 after a couple nights. Start Date was 1/30/15. Oh, mask is the new nasal pico.

Try increasing the minimum pressure from 5 to 8 cm if he can tolerate it.
Ramp..his choice but with the 5 current minimum there really isn't much ramp because the machine is starting out at 4 cm and that might be causing suffocation issues from lack of air movement.
If he can't do 8 cm without ramp...try starting the ramp at 6 instead of 4.
He's going to need more minimum though...if you have to...work up slowly. From the looks of things I am not even certain that 8 cm will do the trick but I think it will give us a better idea what he might need and we might get lucky and find that with a better minimum the machine won't go as high as seen last night.

Thanks Pugsy! I will talk to him and see if he wants to use the ramp at 6. I feel pretty good since I was thinking about using 8 cm for the minimum too. Maybe I'm getting the hang of this? LOL.

first thing, a little trick with sleepyhead, when you've got a day that looks like that, with a little section on the left and a big gap, scroll down to the sessions section under details, and you can turn off that little test session, which allows the night of event flags to expand... makes for a better looking chart

as to pressure changes, I'm with pugsy. last night at 5 was good to see, just in case he might not need more.... but one night at wide open is all anybody really needs

see if you can find out why he took the mask off... too much pressure, suffocating feeling, uncomfortable, leaks, etc, may be something that can be addressed to help lengthen the time
