Post by TangledHose » Fri Jan 30, 2015 8:24 pm

This was a fairly recent study that I have not seen referenced here, so I thought I'd mention it......my apologies if it's already been mentioned......this was only on the news three days ago, so recent news.....

Thanks TH for the article/abstract of the paper. It's always good to keep up to date. Scary how some common OTCs and common meds, etc may be doing more harm than good.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Unfortunately, the problem is if someone has tried everything possible to avoid using drugs to deal with insomnia and can't, they are kind of in a dammed if you do and dammed if you don't type of situation since not sleeping also causes Alzheimer like symptoms. I guess the only solution is for doctors to make sure that patients are as fully informed as possible about the pros and cons so that their choice of treatment is based on accurate information.

Thanks for posting this link. I have two friends who may find this info useful (or they may ignore it and keep on using/abusing OTC sleep aids). Either way, being fully informed is a good thing, so I've passed it along.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy. ;))

PR S1 ASV 950, DreamWear mask, F&P 150 humidifier, O2 @ 2L.

From what I understand, there is a link, which does not necessarily prove causation.
The possibility remains that insomnia and Alzheimers may share factors which exacerbate both.
This may indicate the need to seek out the true reasons for insomnia over temporary fixes.
