1 week in...pressure

Post by lcole » Thu Jan 29, 2015 7:17 am

Hello All.
I have been on the CPAP for one week now. I am happy to report that it is going pretty well. I have been managing o wear it at least 6 hours per night. I have noticed my sleep to be much better in terms of sound sleep
I have a ResMed machine that is set at auto. When I fall asleep it is a 4 pressure. Each morning when I wake up it is at 12.4. What does this mean? Does it get to 12.4 because that what I need? Is that a high number?
Thanks.
Laura

Hi - it does mean that you're likely using the higher pressure for some time - but you'd be able to tell more if you'd download the SleepyHead program from the first note on main pg (Pugsy's Tutorial) and it will tell you that you slept at that higher pressure for 90-95% of the night, or at least more likely a higher pressure than 4 (machine's default - no one gets 'therapy' from it though - a setting that would not correspond with your actual prescribed pressure from your sleep study - but it's done all the time!). It's also a good idea (the software) to be able to see things like AHI, flow rates, leak rates, etc. etc. I would tell you to raise your low pressure setting to e.g. 10 (makes it easier for the machine to catch apneas immediately rather than waiting for pressure to reach e.g. 12) but wait til you see what SleepyHead says.

Get the software and learn how to use it. There will be a graph of the pressure so you can see exactly what it is doing minute by minute.

Glad you are taking well to CPAP. Keep it up.

yes.
no.

good work, keep it up.

when you've got time, fill out your equipment list with what kind of resmed you have, there's lots of different ones, and the advice you're given sometimes depends on what type of machine you have.
