HELP - Sleeping issues related to mask

Post by sippy-sopp » Tue Jan 27, 2015 1:42 pm

Last Thursday I received my Bipap Machine and I got about four hours of good sleep with it that night (The first good sleep I have had since probably I was a teenager (I am 36 now).

This has not been the case every night since. Firstly, I have had to sleep in the recliner because I just can not get to sleep in my bed with this thing on (I also suffer from insomnia). I am finding that I will wake up and find that during sleeping I have removed the mask. Its crazy because I always remember when I wake up and do something, but this is not the case when it comes to removing the mask. I have sat watching TV with the machine on so that I can used to it. Last night I even put socks over my hands thinking this would help me not to pull the mask off but I was wrong (had the mask off, hose disconnected, and the socks removed.)

Another issue I noticed when I wear the mask while awake, after a while I start feeling tingling in my upper chest, shoulders, and face. Whats up with this?

Any help would be appreciated

So I guess I really didn't pose a question except if anyone has had a similar issue with the tingly feeling.

Can anyone offer me any advice with the mask at night?

Thanks

The mask was not designed to be worn while awake, but I wonder if you're not allergic to the cushion or some other part that touches you... do you have issues when you're wearing it at night? The tingly thing is not normal of course, but not knowing anything else medical about you (or psychological) it's kind of hard to comment.

The only issues I have with the mask is that during the night when I am asleep, I end up removing it without knowing it.

I dont have any Pulmonary or Cardiovascular Medical issues

Well, that usually gets better with time... sometimes it helps to use some kind of tape on the straps so that you wake up enough when going to pull it off that you can stop yourself and go back to sleep.

But you did mention other things, so saying the above is your 'only' issue is confusing.
