Quieter alternative to Quattro FX?

Post by KauaiShan » Tue Jan 27, 2015 12:32 pm

Hello all,

After struggling with the Airfit F10 in various sizes, only to have really high leak rates, a friend loaned me a brand me Quattro FX he had as a backup. What a huge difference. Zero large leaks and AHI down to between .5 and 1.5 (previous 2.5-3.0 with the F10).

Despite the leaks, the F10 was the most comfortable mask I've ever had and was very quiet. The FX, despite giving much better numbers, drives me bonkers because it seems so loud.

So, has anyone found a FFM that fits like the FX but is quieter? I suspect the noise comes from the immovable exhaust (the F10 is really quiet and I can rotate the exhaust so it doesn't hit pillows, etc).

Thanks for all your help; it's always very appreciated.

Also, when I go into my profile, it shows my machine under equipment but doesn't show up below. Any ideas?

I don't have any info on FFMs

Your equipment is discontinued, so you'll just have to write it in. For some reason, you can select it from the list, but if the machine is discontinued, the link breaks and it doesn't show up in your profile. Just add it in Other.

Please see my recent post under "FP Icon or S10" thread. I hit upon something that really works for me. The only time my wife says the noise bothers her is when I bury my head in a pillow and the exhaust get noisier. Then she gives me a gentle nudge, and then a not-so-gentle nudge, problem solved.

I'm not sure you have ever told us the number of your machine. Take the water out then turn the blower over and look for a Ref#. With that it will identify your equipment and we might be able to direct you to the one for your profile.

One thought comes to mind: have you tried mask liners for the leak issue with the F10? If not, you might want to try them out. When I started out with Quattro Air almost a year ago, I was bothered by leaks that sounded like a whoopee cushion... every few minutes until I couldn't stand it any longer. Then I learned about mask liners, and they were a game changer for me! Quiet, restful nights followed.. and these days I rarely experience large leaks, nor do the small leaks wake me up. When the F10 came out, I tried it and loved it as it is so comfortable.. it uses the same cushion as the Air, so there was no learning curve. Two sources for liners are Pad-A-Cheek (http://www.padacheek.com) and RemZzzs (https://www.cpap.com or available from some DMEs). Many forum members swear by one or the other of these; I tried both but my preference is for the RemZzzs. Nothing wrong with the Pad-A-Cheek liners though. I do use strap liners from P-A-C.

Now using AirFit F10 mask; Quattro Air is backup mask. RemZzzz mask liners with both.
