That is what I did. I used an S9 Elite nine months before I bought my S9 Autoset from our hosts.
I was going to go on a weight loss program, and wanted to avoid silly redundant studies.
My work insurance would have NEVER covered a new machine that soon, so I bought it and TOLD my doctor.
Do I need an auto machine?

I don't believe it is possible to control your apneas with a pressure of 4.....Even 6 seems pretty low. Just a loss of weight is not a reason to lower your pressure. What was your AHI range when you made the pressure change.

Re: Do I need an auto machine?
You already have a fully-data-capable machine. Your weight shouldn't change drastically overnight or through the night, so you should be able to monitor how your present settings are working. And, as long as you've been a member of the forum, I would "presume" that you should know how to monitor and tweak your therapy.KatyDidAgain wrote:I have a Phillips Respironics Remstar Pro CPAP machine -- REF # 450 P
Having an "Auto" machine is probably not going to resolve the various issues you have with your weight, sleeping positions, numbers and why you feel the need to have sleep studies. In other words, having an "Auto" would probably require you to monitor your therapy numbers MORE than you have been up to now. They don't "automatically" know what your setting needs to be.......they respond to "air flow" and variations in breathing. AND, since they change pressures all night long, it could be more disturbing to your sleep.

Explain to the doctor your history of studies and titrations. Tell him it is a financial hardship. Please prescribe an AutoCPAP to me, and I can take care of this.
Don't accept another referral...get the auto.

Re: Do I need an auto machine?
If you want to get the right machine listed scroll down the equipment until you see PR System One REMstar Pro CPAP Machine with C-Flex Plus. That is the 450.
A pressure of 4 is as low as it can go and if AHI is being controlled at that level, you probably don't need an auto because you have a lot of room for increasing. If it's not being controlled, I would suggest posting a screen shot and getting suggestions. An auto machine is not a bad idea, but if it's a need or if it's a want would be hard to tell with the info we have. If you are able to buy it and feel better by having greater flexability to monitor your results and study to know how and when to make changes, go for it.
