Broken ASV

Post by ephraimh » Sun Jan 25, 2015 8:51 pm

I have been using a Resmed VPAP Adapt SV series 9 since late 2007.

There are three machines in this mess so it's a little complicated and hard to explain but here goes.

On December 8, 2014, the AHI & AI spiked from an almost always 0.0 to at least 3.5 and higher. I know zero is perfection but the sudden spike and continuing higher numbers puzzled me. Every few months one might go to 1.x for a week but never that high. I swapped the machine on the 11th and the results did not improve.

I took the December 11 machine to my doctor on January 20 and he said the machine was probably broken. He could not account for the change.

The real-time results LCD screen on the December 11 machine had been messed up since the day I got it. Here's a video of the December 11 machine. http://youtu.be/VfWQ8xeOcqk The vertical line should not be there and the third row should not be so far down.

One of my doctor's respiratory therapists agreed and yet another ASV came on January 21st. The display on this one looks odd, too. Should the TGMV -- PS row be that far down? I don't recall. http://youtu.be/dMiOTBw4ZP4

Any feedback will be much appreciated. If you e-mail me, I can send you a copy of the ASV report
The newest January ASV is a model 36039.

Thanks
Ephraim

it's actually a 36037, (if you check on the back of it).

I can't see anything in the videos you posted, they're too out of focus.

go here, http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual and request the manual for it, it has images of the treatment screen, and you can compare it with what you have.

you need to request the manual for the s9 vpap adapt. there's no "sv" in the name of the machine.

You also need to get Sleepyhead software (it's free) and learn to use it. It gives you much more detailed information about your therapy then what you can see on the screen.
It would also help if you filled out your equipment profile and let us know what your settings are.
There are many things that could affect your AHI including the weather, a leaky mask or a cold.
Detailed info from Sleepyhead might provide some clues.

there seems to be some confusion about what's what, also, I believe he had a s8 adapt sv until december, then he got a s9 adapt.... so even if he has the data chip from the s8, sleepyhead won't read it, ... but it can read the sd cards from the s9 machines, of course.

From what I can see it looks like what displays in my LCD.
Real time data.

Thank you & some clarification. I'm very sorry for the confusion. I can be a little dumb on the uptake.

1) I got "model 36039" from the paperwork. I just checked the machine and it's a "model 36037." they don't match. why am I not surprised.

2) the rx from my doctor shows the following: "ResMed S9 ASV VPAP" and ASV and SV can be found in various places in the manuals I've seen online. I'm not doubting you at all about the name. I'm just explaining why I used the term

3) I don't recall ever using any S8. The machine I turned in was an S9 and the same in every respect but for the LCD real-time results display.

4) above the on/off button is "VPAP Adapt". the mode settings options are "CPAP", "ASV", and & "ASVauto." Nowhere on the machine or any of its settings is the word or option "Autoset" I'm at ASVAuto

5) "EPR" does not appear anywhere on the machine or as an option

6) yes, it's real-time data. I changed my cpaptalk avatar to the image in the welcome guide. The layout of the data on that image does not match my screen's layout. The manual image shows the TGMV just below the MV in the left column and the PS value at the bottom right. They're in two different rows. On my machine's layout both TGMV and PS are in the same row but farther down and just above the ASVAuto pressure bar.Because the displays don't match I have to wonder if the data itself is wrong.

7) there are no optional accessories such as Sp02 and Pulse

the serial number on the machine matches the paperwork.

9) it has a smart card and I send that to my doctor. I'll ask him about the Sleepy Head.

I've had many machines bite the dust over the years.

thanks again

the older models had "SV" in the name, and some people haven't managed to update themselves, the proper name for your unit is "S9 VPAP Adapt" (like it says over the power button)

you said that you'd been using a SV since 2007, so it would have had to be an older model, since the s9 vpap adapt didn't exist before april 11th 2011, and the rest of the s9 line didn't exist before Feb 26, 2010

EPR is redundant on a VPAP.

I changed my avatar to show the layout of the real-time results LCD. The numbers in the gif are arbitrary. I'm just trying to explain the layout. I tried to take some more videos but I can't get the thing to focus.

Thank you all.

your avatar is about the size of a postage stamp, it's meaningless.

if you have a pic you want to share, upload it to imgur and post the link here.

why are you obsessing over the exact layout of a screen THAT NOBODY SEES WHEN THEY'RE USING THE MACHINE?

I've posted the layout of the January 20, 2015 screen and the results gifs for the machine I got on 12/11/2014. http://ephraimh.imgur.com/all The real-time results, as I breathe, can be seen on the machine at any time. I look at the screen, out of curiosity, only a couple times a night when I get up to urinate. See below.

The results shown on the 12/11/2014 machine were much worse but I didn't feel tired. The screen had two lines on it that were not on any of the prior screens and a couple of the numbers were "scrunched" together and hard to read. I liken this to the speedometer on a car. The speedometer should look the same as the one in the car used for the test drive. If they didn't match, the numbers were hard to read, and there were a few lines, not scratches, running through it , I'd wonder if there's some other problem with it. The speedometer might show 50 mph. Maybe I'm actually going 42. I would get it checked.

A few years ago one machine I got broke in three days. My DME screws up almost daily and cannot be trusted to provide safe equipment. So, I look at the numbers. http://www.yelp.com/biz/apria-healthcare-redmond

I showed the 12/11/2014 machine to my doctor. His office examined it, talked to the DME and said it's broken.

to get real-time results:
1) I put on the mask
2) press the on/off button to the left of the screen
3) the machine starts and the screen then displays the temperature with a yellow background
4) I press the dial to the right of the screen
5) the background of the display changes to white
6) I turn the dial and the results are shown and change, as they should, with each breath I take.

thanks
