Don't know why the machine didn't respond to the OA. It's possible the snore or flow reduction didn't trip the response or maybe the OA came out of the blue so fast that there wasn't time for much of a response.

I seem to remember someone telling me something about me having "snap shut" apneas shortly after my sleep study, but that was five years ago so it might be a hazy memory.

SleepyHead 0.9.5 had a few bugs and one was with my pressure graph. Sent you a PM. Let's try 9.6 testing version...no installer yet.

I'm enjoying my S9 with my AirFit P10. However, my numbers frequently look like this:

AHI: 0.5
HI: 0.5
CA: 0.4

Leak is always <12 L/min @ ~15 cm H2O.

My concern is with the frequent CA's being nearly 50% of my apneas (if I'm reading that right) on a lot of nights.

When I was diagnosed in 2009, I was told it was strictly obstructive apnea. I'm wondering if changed, or if the S9 is reporting CA's for some other reason.

If you need charts from SleepyHead, I can get them.

it's reporting 'em because you're having them... it's fairly normal for people to have them occasionally, for instance, when going to sleep, or waking up, as your body switches from awake to asleep breathing, you may hold your breath for a bit... tada, a central or two... it's referred to as swj, or sleep/wake junk.

in a study, they've got EEG traces and can see "oh, patient isn't asleep yet, so this doesn't count towards the AHI" your machine, not being wired to your head, doesn't have that insight, it just sees you stop breathing for a few, and determines your throat isn't closed.... ergo, it says CENTRAL! *ding*.

no matter what, an average of .4 per hour over the night is insignificant. the percentage of total apnea is pretty meaningless.

Dear apneic friends (old and new)—

Just wanted to post a little "Hey, guys, I'm still around" message. I'm going to try and be more active here on the board if I can. As it turns out, I'm trying to just make it through today; I had a horrible night (AHI of 1.1 which is certain death for me) last night. Personally, I blame Little Caesar's!

I'm still using my Resmed S9 every night and only have bad nights (hang in there newbs!) if I eat foods my body doesn't like.

For those of you who know me well from years back, you know how cute my son is. He's turning six this year!

Fortunately/Unfortunately, I'm now a single dad after twenty years of marriage, but we are still great friends and parents, and we are keeping our family unit strong and healthy. Our son is adjusting quite well, and I am happier in a lot of ways.

I've lost fifteen pounds since the separation and am eating quite cleanly most days and exercising a bit more. I'm actually UNDER my high school weight (I'm 43).

I hope all of you are doing well, and newbies: HANG IN THERE! YOU CAN DO IT!

BlackSpinner! So nice to hear from you. Thanks for the kudos. We chose to take the high road and can't fathom why more people don't do that. People are just childish. I was hoping that as I lost more weight, my apnea would improve, but it doesn't seem like it. I would still like to lose another thirty or so pounds though.

Just wanted to say how nice it is to hear from you again! I'm glad/sad that you are a single parent now but you are okay with it so am I! I cannot believe that Jonah is 6! Time sure flies!

Hi, Hawthorne! We're doing great. I'm at his baseball game right now. I'm actually having a bad spell of sleep. Last night I had a 1.9, which doesn't sound bad, but I feel absolutely awful. The night before was a 1.1. Anything above 0.5 makes me feel like crap. Why do digestive issues do this? I don't get the connection. Is it neurotransmitter imbalance? Ugh.

I have always been just like you, Kenny! Anything over 0.5 and I feel terrible. Fortunately, I rarely am over that number now.
I can't eat or drink anything after about 9 pm or I have get a higher AHI. It is also WHAT you eat or drink in the evening that can cause issues. I eat a very bland oat cereal. It is in bite sized pieces. I only have maybe 20 - no milk or anything - just like a snack and not after 9. I go to bed about 11 pm. It works for me! You know, though, that everyone is different!! Everyone digestive system works at a different rate and, as we age, it changes too! I'm getting up there and I watch what I eat and drink, how much and when. It helps that my husband has type 2 diabetes! I generally, eat what and when he eats. The diabetic diet is very healthy! Of course, we both splurge once in a while!!!! LOL!!
As far as having more centrals is concerned - you may be sleeping differently. You may not be wide awake but you may not be in as deep a sleep when centrals happen. Maybe you are a more restless sleeper now. If a person changes position, they tend to hold their breathe as they move - boom! a central!

Hi Kenny - I'm very new to this world of CPAP. While looking over some of your thread I decided to look up Pur-Sleep Aromatherapy as I saw it noted in your sig. I have struggled with chronic sinus issues my entire life (now 47) and was wondering if you use the Aromatherapy to help such a problem?

I don't think it's designed to clear sinuses, but they might have one with eucalyptus or mint in it that feels good when you are stuffed up.

BTW, here's a trick (found on Quora.com) that really works to clear sinuses. It's ridiculous looking, but I swear by it:

- Pinch your nose closed.
- Hold your breath. You might even want to LIGHTLY bear down
- Move your head forward and back like a pigeon or chicken, keeping it straight (don't look up or down).
- Keep this up until you can no longer hold your breath.
- Release and breathe through your nose.

I've tried this many times, and it hasn't failed me yet. Good luck!
