How to Install SleepyHead on Windows

Post by archangle » Wed Dec 05, 2012 12:18 am

This is intended to be a one-stop instruction sheet for installing SleepyHead (SH) on Windows.

1) Download the software. http://sourceforge.net/projects/sleepyhead/ Choose the save file option.

2) Go to the directory you saved the file in, and right click on the SleepyHead-0.9.1-beta-win32-setup.exe file.

3) Select "Run as Administrator."

4) Follow the prompts to install the software.

5) Run the software. It should update itself the first time you run it. If the update fails, close the program and start it again, but right click on the program icon and select "Run as Administrator." You should only have to "Run as Administrator" one time, so that the program can update.

There is a patched version of SH available to allow it to work on many of the newer Philips Respironics 60 series machines and it may fix a few other bugs. If it works for you, you don't necessarily have to install the patch.

To install the patch.

6) Exit SleepyHead if it's running.

7) Download the patch from https://s3.amazonaws.com/thefreemanclan ... pyHead.zip

8) Unzip the folder. Right click on SleepyHead.zip, and select extract all.

9) Go into the SleepyHead folder it creates. Right click on SleepyHead and "copy."

10) Go into the C:\Program Files (x86)\SleepyHead folder.

In some versions of Windows it may be in a different folder. Probably C:\Program Files\SleepyHead

11) Right click on SleepyHead. Rename the program to SleepyHead_old.

12) Right click again and "paste."

13) Double click on SleepyHead and the program should start.

If you've got everything right, it should say "SleepyHead v0.9.2-3" in the title bar.

Pugsy's instructions on installing the patch may be a little clearer on that part of the process.

If you get a message about "mingw10.dll" after installing the patch you probably didn't copy sleepyhead.exe to proper directory. Read the above information again carefully.

One quick clarification...since I made the mistake myself then I suspect others likely might do the same.
Be sure and go INTO the folder that the unzip function creates and copy the individual patch file. I was copying the folder and that doesn't work so great. Took me 3 times to figure out what I was doing wrong.

Renaming the old application exe file renders it useless but allows it to remain in position in case you want to revert it back to an executable file.
I just deleted mine but you can rename it if you wish.

Side note for S9 users who probably don't care about the patch....I installed it just to see if I could and it has fixed my double sessions along with the 95% leak number bug I was having. So just a thought if you are having buggy sessions or leak numbers.

I know this an old post, but I am having an issue installing SleepyHead. When I download the file and extract all files, there is no setup dot exe file. The only dot exe files are the openGL and brokenGL. Which of these should I run to install SleepyHead, if either? If neither, where do I find the setup dot exe file?

You can click on the OpenGL or BrokenGL. The open one uses a faster video card and I believe your computer will tell you if it won't work so then try the broken one. The OpenGL worked on my computer.

there is no install for the newest versions, just run them in the unzipped directory.

Thanks! I tried the open, but it would not work, but the broken did.

that's why there's two of 'em "gl" is a graphics library that SH uses, and it's not so much 'broken' as 'older' and 'newer'. but the SH guy is a bit snarky about things at times.

On a Windows computer, you can right click on the executable and then click "send to". Choose desktop as a shortcut. Creating the shortcut on your desktop will make it much easier to start the program without looking for it in the future.
