VPAP ASV --> Aircurve 10 ASV upgrade complete

Post by geoffc » Sat Dec 20, 2014 8:51 pm

Hey, i picked up my Aircurve 10 ASV yesterday. After using the Vpap ASV for 5 years, this was quite an upgrade.

The first thing that struck me when i picked it up was its size and weight. Traveling with my old machine was basically carrying a mid size carry on suitcase. The new machine, everything fits in a case smaller than my soft sided briefcase and wow is it light.

My old machine was sey to a minimum pressure of 6.5 (exhale) and a minimum boost of 7 (13.5 minimum inhale pressure)

The new machine was configured to minimum pressure of 6.5 and With ASV Auto to cover the inhale pressure, i tried it in the office in full ASV Auto mode and it would go down to a minimum of 4 and it just didn't feel right. RT said i might want to try backing it down slowly so it can run on full auto in order to utilize the full auto mode, and i could get used to the low exhale pressure gradually.

So got home set it up, filled it with water, first time I used a climateline hose, Wow the light weight and flexibility compared to the old ASV hose with the second "monitor" line is a game changer.

My wife and i let the bedroom get cold (down to 58 degrees) during the winter, and put lots of blankets on the bed, we also had a humidifier in the bedroom that would put out 2 gallons of water in the air overnight and i put just a little bit in the (old) humidifier chamber set on 1 otherwise it was rainout city, but that meant we got condensation the windows and my wife complained it was too humid in the room.

I have never had a Ramp feature before, so i turned it off. I set the new machine up with a air temp of 68 and humidity set to auto. Set the room humidifier to low (put out .5 gallon in 8 hours) and turned out the lights.

The ASV algorithm is WAY different (i never tried the s9 so i can't compare) but the old machine would start the pressure up when i finished my exhale, the new machine doesn't start the pressure up until i begin to inhale, unless i don't begin to inhale for about 5 seconds, it was so different, i had to do some experimenting to see how it behaved. If i held my breath at the end of an exhale, it ramps the pressure up fast forcing the breath compared to a gentle ramp up with a normal inhale. After playing with the machine a but, i fell asleep, woke up about an hour later thinking i was in the jungle with the heat and humidity and something poking me in the side. My wide reached over to see if i was in bed because it was so quite, she couldn't hear the rise and fall of the machine. I turned down the line temp to 65 and went back to sleep.

I "woke up" enough to know i had a very sudden high pressure boost but just half rolled over, and was immediately back asleep a couple times during the next several hours. When i woke up to get up, the machine told me i used it 7.5 hours, leak and humidifier were happy faces, max pressure through the night was 17.5 and my AHI was 0.0. The old machine told je my 1 week average ahi was 2.1, 1 month average was 2.5 and my 3 month average was 2.4. To the best of my knowledge i have never in my life had a 0.0 ahi before. (My initial sleep study 5 years ago my ahi was 117 and my AI was 18 all centrals)

I've felt pretty darn good today and am looking forward to night 2 with my new machine.
I have not yet downloaded Sleepyhead to look at the details.

If anyone has any questions about this machine, settings, wants to see some pictures other than the marketing pics on the resmed site, etc; holler and i'll,do my best to answer them.

Sleep well my friends,

Geoff

ps- the Aircurve 10 ASV is not in the list of available equipment so i cannot update my profile with the new equipment.

Thanks for the comprehensive update... I've been wondering what's going on with the Aircurve ASV.

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

Did you notice the pressure adjustments were too high? That is the one thing I have been reading about the auto mode is that the pressure has been adjusting too high sometimes. I noticed you said you rolled back over and went to sleep. I am new to ASV, but am still debating between S9 and AirCurve 10

Which machine did you finally choose and what has been your experience? What of the high "pressure adjustments"?
