Smart Phone Oximeter

I have been looking for an inexpensive (cheap) data recording oximeter and I think I found something that works for me. It’s called “iOximeter by Safe Heart”. You plug it into your smart phone headphone jack and it is powered by it. The application can be downloaded from the Apple App and Google Play stores for free. I ordered it from Amazon ($70) and received it yesterday, got to try it out last night for a couple of hours. Since the unit is pretty cheap there are some issues with the unit. It does work with my smart phone and records the data. I compared the Spo2 and pulse rate with a finger tip unit that I have and they pretty much match in readings. Issue number one is that the data is stored in one continuous file, so if you use it a lot then your going to have to scroll quite a bit to get to the date and time you want to look at. You can't delete the file and start a new one. You can also send the data as a CSV file attachment through email and process the data using Excel, kind of pain but I can handle that. Second issue, the cord is only a little over a foot long; you can use a 3 foot audio extension cable (count the plug rings) with an Iphone, but may not work with an Android phone, something to do with the power differences in headphone jacks. A big issue is that it does not work with all Iphones or Android phones, you have check their website to see if your phone or tablet will work. Even then some folks have had problems devices that are approved to work. The iOximeter does work with my Iphone 4, Ipad 2 and my Samsung Tab 2 7 tablet. For anyone that is adventurous here is a device you can check out. I am somewhat happy with it, and the company claims it is continually updating the application, so maybe they will fix these issues (eventually).

or, for 30$ more you can get a *great* wrist mounted unit that has none of those problems, AND works with sleepyhead.

You make a great point palerider, working with Sleepyhead would be great.

Can you recommend one? I bought a CMS 50F wrist one before I started using CPAP to see if I wsay desatting at home and spot check myself during asthma flares. Does that work with Sleepyhead?

indeed it does. both the older and newer models. you do have to tell SH which of the F models you have, though, because it can't tell the difference, due to the very different way that the two F's communicate.
