With cpap what's the best time to do a sinus rinse?

Post by OffroadToy » Sun Dec 21, 2014 11:40 pm

I just started cpap a month and a half ago and have been dealing with nasal congestion (non allergy related.) After reading up on it here i purchased the Neilmed Sinus Rinse kit. I thought before bedtime would be a good time to do it but read some prefer morning. What's your thoughts on this... before or after your cpap therapy?

I do it an hour before going to bed. Works well for me.

If your purpose is to help clear your sinuses to better be able to use your CPAP, then I would say evening. For me it has to be quite a while before bedtime because initially it stirs thing up a bit with lots of drainage so I need some time for things to settle back down. If you are using the rinse to help with allergies in general, someone else's experience may be more relevant.

There is no right or wrong tome. Anytime you feel congested...do it. I sometimes go weeks without using it and then I may use it once or twice a day for a few days.

But it's me!

I am a CPAP newbie at three months now, soaking up the knowledge on the board. I have been sinus rinsing for 10+ years now after finally having a septoplasty and turbinectomy, which was mind blowing in being able to really breathe through my nose for the first time. I use the NeilMed squeeze bottle about once a week now after daily for close to eight years, as my allergies are under control with shots and use of dust masks. I have consistently found that morning works best for me, as the drainage can be overwhelming. Nothing quite like bending over and seeing a stream of saline pour out my nose, with bedtime drainage unpleasant. I also toss in a little bit of alkalol with the rinse.

I never do it. When I wake up, there is just enough natural moisture in there for a nice, wet honk!
After that, I'm good for the day, unless I need to sneeze--then I look at a light and it's done, clean and clear.
At some time, my moisture may reduce to the point where I will need help.
I will be happy there is back-up.

Never...never have, and never will. WTF? CPAP doesn't change how you should live your life. If that's what you do, or need, go for it. If now, don't worry about it.

Wow. I had no idea it could be that life altering. Thanks for the heads up...
