Know anything about the SOMNAPATCH by Somnarus?

Post by snorebeard » Sat Oct 18, 2014 5:35 pm

Does anybody know anything about the SOMNAPATCH by Somnarus? They are asking for volunteers to do a sleep study to test it.
I ran a search here on it and didn't find anything.
See http://www.somnarus.com/
Looks like it might be good?
Thanks

Looks like an interesting device. They are sponsored by a sleep study center and it would seem that recruiting folks who come in for a sleep study would be the way to go. The device doesn't appear to interfere with the usual placement of sensors for a sleep study so it would be ideal to get their data simultaneously with that of the sleep lab.

If you live in the Bay area and would be willing to have one night not using your cpap, the experience might be interesting.

It's amazing the attachable miniature diagnostic devices that are being created and are now on the market. My cardio doc wanted me to be fitted with a small 1"x"1 by 3/8" thick heart monitor stuck to the skin over my heart (no wifi involved, just recorded data). This device was totally non-invasive and, to my surprise, stuck on my chest for the required two weeks - thru showers, exercise and whatnot. I haven't received the results yet because you have to pull it off after two weeks and pop it in the mailbox. Should be interesting to see the results. BTW, after the first day or so, you pretty much forget it's stuck to your chest (the doctors assistants do that part on site). Amazing. It's brand name was Zio, not to be confused with Zeo

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

If you're not part of the solution you're just scumming up the bottom of the beaker!

Any more reports on this. I am still considering participating in their study.

If this works, its more bad news for Sleep Diagnostic Industry which is already plagued with excess capacity and insurers pushing for home testing vs. in lab PSG.

The upside is that hospital-based labs may prevail over free-standing facilities.
(Not all quality haunts--as suggested by several old threads)
Home studies are probably all most patients will need; the others will need to be identified
and get their tests in the lab, in a hospital, where high-risk patients are close to emergency intervention.
Upgrading to autotitrating, full data machines is something insurance companies can get behind,
--in spite of positive outcomes for many patients.

I was a lab rat for them about a month, ago they Pay $100 to participate, $200 if you agree to let them put a pressure tube through your nose and into you esophagus, I did not opt for that . The device is very comfortable to use. Other that having that on you nose ... it was a standard sleep test with all the wires and probes.

They also provide you with a copy of the complete sleep test.

Test are only in the south SF,CA aera. Three block walk from the last Bart station. (Millbrae)
