Can't find the BPM settings (if they even are there)

Post by curacaoblues » Sat Dec 20, 2014 1:24 pm

Hello!

A semi-newbie here. I've been using BiPAP for 5 years now and today, my new Respironics System One BiFlex machine arrived. Copied and adjusted the settings to be the same as on my old machine, chose the Bi-level mode. I can breathe well and I automatically got used to it. Except one thing and I'm afraid I screwed up big time... I need my BPM set to be 15 and I can't for the life of me find anything like that in the manual. Will I have to return the machine if it doesn't have the BPM setting? Been mentally beating myself up for hours now. Really don't know what to do.

Any help or info would be much much much appreciated!

What is the model number of the machine (on the bottom - make sure there is no water in the tank before flipping it over).
Current Settings PS 4.0 over 10.6-18.0 (cmH2O) - Resmed S9 VPAP Auto w/h5i Humidifier - Quattro Air FFM
TNET Sleep Resource Pages - CPAP Machine Database
Put your equip in your Signature - SleepyHead v1.0.0-beta-1

the 660 and 760 models don't offer a timed backup rate (bpm).

knowing the exact model(ref) number of your old machine and the new one would help, since the names of the presperonics machines are vague and unhelpful.

"System One BiFlex" doesn't tell us much. There are several models that would say that.

As Krelvin says, take out the water tank and look for something like REF 760P. It will also say something like "BiPAP blahblah BiFlex" near the display.

What model is your old machine? Where did you get the BPM number?

Sorry guys! Old machine is 1012823 and yep, the new one is 760. No hope then, I assume.

The BPM is what my doctor set, I just read it off the display.

Looks like the old one is a "Legacy BiPAP Harmony," and the new one is a PRS1 60 series BiPAP Auto. Does it say "BiPAP Harmony" and BiPAP Auto on the machines?

It appears the old one is an "S/T" mode machine and the new one isn't. Do you have central apnea?

How did you get the new machine? If the prescription specified a backup rate, they dispensed the wrong machine.

If you acquired it some other way, it won't do the same kind of therapy as the old one. BTW, none of us here care how you got your machine as long as you didn't steal it. We're not the CPAP police branch of the medical mafia.

the real question is whether you really *need* the backup rate or not.

if you do, you'll need to move to a different machine. if you don't, then your 760 should be fine.

Central apnea is right and I do need the backup rate, unfortunately.

You guys I bought it from cpap dot com, no illegal stuff! I'm not from the US though. When I called my doctor, he tried really hard to talk me out of buying another BiPAP, saying that it's a huge waste of money when I already have one, that I'll always get the complete service to ensure my machine is working properly. I really wanted a smaller one to use outside my home because I love to go out and spend time away and I felt very limited. So I got a prescription from my physician and decided to buy one anyway, thinking 'Meh, it's not like I will mess with the settings anyway. It will be the same.' and haven't talked to my sleep doctor again because he didn't seem to understand. Of course though, my idiotic brain didn't think there would be other differences in settings aside from CPAP/BiPAP/Auto/and so on modes. All thanks to my stupidity. Cannot tell you how many curses I used to insult myself today. At least I got a huge lesson...
