If you supplement vitamin D it should be in the form of D3 which is oil based, NOT a tablet. And it should be taken with Vitamin K2--see http://chriskresser.com/vitamin-k2-the-missing-nutrient. Make sure you are eating sufficient amounts of Vitamin A as well. I get mine from pastured egg yolks and orange and yellow veggies.

I've been taking K2 for a few years, but just last week read something (did not save it, or at least I can't find it at the moment) that caused me to stop taking it for the moment... very frustrating, and I don't know if it had anything to do with Vit D, or cardiac issues or calcium, etc. I thought it was a 'magic' pill too for all this time and recommended it to others, but now want to wait for more info before restarting. I do know I wouldn't have just stopped it on a whim, so whatever I read (and it wasn't junk) had to be fairly meaningful. So sorry - want to pull my hair out for not making a note (that I can put my hands on today).

Hi Julie,

I would definitely be interested in what you found that caused you to stop taking the K2. Chris Kresser, my favorite healthcare professional for various reasons, highly recommends it as Janknitz pointed out.

This is totally anecdotal and proves nothing but when my calcium level was slightly elevated, I started taking cod liver oil with D, A and K2. After getting retested, it went back down to the normal level.

I wonder if the calcium was going to the wrong places and the K2 put it back where it belonged. Of course, I can't prove anything and obviously have to take it on a consistent basis and get tested again to see if my theory had any possible merit.

I'm pretty sure it was a cardiac related thing, but new and complex, and if I find it again will certainly let you know. It was about how one feature of something (not necessarily the K2 itself) affected something else (possibly related to ASA?), and therefore somehow created a backlash effect on what it was supposed to fix... or something like that, but that could be off too.

I'd be interested in knowing what you read about K2.

Did you know you can look at your internet browsing history for a particular date on pretty much any device or browser and you might be able to find the article that way? I've had to resort to that at times.

I keep a bookmark file for articles like that, and I'm learning that if you use Evernote there is a way to keep and categorize things you come across on the internet. (As part of Cyber Monday I downloaded a 99 cent book that tells you how to use Evernote that way--but I haven't completed reading it yet).

I have no idea when I read it and have looked thru my history on my Mac that I've been literally using for decades (well, not the same one ) but thanks. I just don't 'do' Cpap machines or software other than my own.

Some of the vitamin supplements are way above the "recommended" or "safe" dosages, so do some research.

Also realize that some vitamins, such as Vitamin A can have some serious side effects if you take too much for too long. Vitamin A can flat out kill you.

For some other vitamins, your body will pretty much get rid of any excess. Some vitamins fall in the middle.

Read up on any vitamins you take, especially in single pill or "megadose" versions. Be sure to at least read what the FDA or other government agency says about recommended doses. There are lots of wide eyed nutjobs out there who are convinced that their favorite "all-natural, organic, healthy" chemical is a miracle cure for many things, that there is no downside, and anyone who complains is part of the global, corporate, Illuminati, new world order conspiracy.

Vitamin D is one of the vitamins that I take personally some of the time, but I'm careful not to go too far above the recommended "safe" doses. There are some long term effects possible, although I'm not as scared of vitamin D as I am of A.

There's an interesting lecture series on YouTube about the link between vitamin D deficiency and sleep apnea. It's by Dr. Stasha Gominak.

I would love to hear what everyone thinks about her theory.

There was a discussion some time ago. In general, her theory is interesting but wrong. Indeed, my vit D is in the upper range of normal, but I have sleep issues nonetheless.
