How long will i feel strange
How long will i feel strange
I have been using CPAP now for about a month. I have been feeling odd. The first week I was feeling like I was "out of body". I had to keep busy to keep my mind from racing. I have had pain across my chest that has been easing over these past few weeks. But some days I feel anxious which is not normal for me. Will this pass?

Re: How long will i feel strange
As long as you are quite sure it is newly worked chest muscles, and not your heart, it should pass in a short time.
Make sure that the pain does not radiate or get worse with effort.
If that is the case, please make haste to an ER!

I am sure it is not my heart had all that checked out. I read about what caused the pain and that made sense to me. Just wondering about the strange over all feelings i am having.

Thanks I will for sure. I think what I am looking for is has anyone else had this happen to them?

Maybe the effect of having enough O2 and sleep?
What is your equipment?
Are you getting enough humidity or too much and it is affecting your sinuses (and there by your ears/balance)?

Will have to look at the machine. I have been playing with the humidity. I find 1-2 keep me from drying out and not make me stuffy. I was hoping it was something I will adjust to as I get used to getting so much o2. I was diagnosed with severe OSA.
Re: How long will i feel strange
Are you on any medications? It's not unusual for dosage to need adjusted after getting on CPAP. I guess it's because the balance of hormones/chemicals can change in the body with treatment. Also, have you confirmed through your data that your CPAP therapy is indeed optimized?

Re: How long will i feel strange
I had multiple experiences with chest (muscle) pains and sometimes I still get them after a night with higher pressures. The first month or two was very difficult - I was exhausted all time. Once I got used to the mask on my face, blissful uninterrupted sleep and new found energy during the day. I can actually drive on long trips without fear of nodding off. 9 months in and it still is a burden to strap on the mask but well worth any minor discomfort.
Good luck!

Re: How long will i feel strange
I am getting better with the pain just and thought that might be causing some of my strange feelings. Thanks for letting me know it will take a while for the pain to leave completely. I have made peace with my nasal pillows so that is not as big an issue.

Welcome. Please register for an ID on the board and fill in the equipment on your profile. There's a link in my signature line to help with that. That will help us tell you what you can do.
There might be fixable problems with your setup once we know what equipment you have. What CPAP machine do you have? Do you know your pressure settings and other details.
As for when you get back into equilibrium, my semi-scientific explanation is that starting CPAP and stopping apnea is like stopping smoking, drinking, drugs, or many other things. Being strangled in your sleep by apnea makes your body do a lot of adjustment. O2 levels drop and your body tries to cope. Your sleep patterns are disturbed. You get stress hormones. Your brain and body chemistry adjust to it. When you stop being strangled, your body is still doing some of the things it did to adjust to apnea. You may be out of kilter for a while.
