2 Problems

Post by RACER 3 » Thu Dec 18, 2014 12:50 pm

I am a new Bipap user. Mask is a Mirage Quatro. The machine is set to AUTO, with some Max pressures. I have used the machine with good results. This is a top of the line machine I was told.

Problem # 1. the machine is set to the maximum setting for humidity which is # 5 on this machine and I am still very dry through the night. Any suggestions? Once I get the sweet spot in the mask placement for the night, I do not take it off all night for a drink of water or anything, this is because of problem # 2.

Problem # 2. The mask is leaving the bridge of my nose very red and it lasts all day, never goes away. The mask is tightened only to the point where it will not leak at night. When I get that sweet spot where it does not leak, I leave it on all night because that it what I was instructed. It does not feel too tight at night, but it must be. I purchased a cloth with foam on the bridge of the nose all one piece but I still have the problem. Does anyone have a thought or solution if you had the same problem?

Exactly which brand and model machine? Depending on which brand and model there probably are additional options for increasing that humidity but we need to know which machine and if you using a heated hose with that machine? From the sounds of it you probably aren't but don't know until you tell us which machine.
Sounds like maybe a Respironics BiPap Auto...if that's true look on the bottom of the blower unit for a 3 digit model number.
A setting of 5 on a 760 model is NOT the most it will do in terms of humidity.

That said..dry mouth from mouth breathing with a full face mask may not be something that even maximum humidity can fix.
The humidifier simply cannot adequately rehydrate the mouth for some people for various reasons but would be worth a try to see if more humidity helped or not.

For problem number 2....try a mask liner either homemade or store bought.
Padacheek's makes a really nice mask liner

Or consider a different mask if you can.
