If you slip some gluten into my wife's food without her knowledge she comes out in itchy rashes.
This happens when she is unaware such as if a restaurant menu doesn't state food contains gluten.
So personally I would be very skeptical of an article that says it is only the nocebo effect.

Re: How long to i start feeling good from CPAP?
6 months in myself, and I honestly don't feel any better. However... I sleep through the night, I used to get up 5 or so times. I actually dream, vivid dreams regularly, whereas I rarely used to. So despite me not feeling better, the simple fact I am not getting up as often in the night suggests tha...

Re: Some musings on masks...
It is a Mirage FX nasal.
I will try putting it higher and see how it goes.
The one unfortunate side effect of the nurse "dropping" the mask is that I didn't get fitting instructions in the hospital.

I still have my FFM that is fine that I have used for the past 6 months for when I need it.Sheriff Buford wrote:Do what you want, but after 6 months it is not enough time to "settle in". You may want the full face when you have a cold, sinuses or other issues. Just sayin'

Re: How do you stop sleeping on your face? (stomach/side sleeper
With my FFM it took me a while, but I got used to sleeping on my face again.
Basically a thick pillow (with just my forehead resting on it) and my arm under my head alongside the mask means I have a pocket where the mask sits, while I am still comfortable.

Some musings on masks...
After 6 months of using a Quattro FX FFM since I started CPAP I have had quite a few minor issues, nothing major, but enough to want to tweak things: Notably: Leaks are a pain on FFM, I find liners help somewhat, but are annoying for vision. Itchy noses are a nightmare! I mouth breathe a lot, I have...

Re: Informing the DVLA about Sleep Aponea?
I never bothered. I was only diagnosed with mild / moderate and I never find myself drowsy or anything. The DVLA website says: Obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome and driving You must tell DVLA if you have obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome or obstructive sleep apnoea (also known as sleep apnoea) with ...

Re: What was explained poorly when you began CPAP/BiPAP?
All of it. For me on the NHS it was "Here is a machine. Put this mask on. *nurse checks for leaks and adjusts accordingly* there you go. Don't tip the machine when water is in the humidifier. See you in 6 months." I would have liked as a minimum some basics of mask care and cleaning. What AHI was an...

Re: NHS and playing with pressures
Well I changed my pressure to 9 from 8 last night. I didn't notice any difference in "feel" and I slept perfectly all night. AHI was 7.5 this morning which is higher than it usually is, looking at sleepyhead it was a mixture of all types of apnoeas in pretty much even ratios. I did however have a gl...

Re: NHS and playing with pressures
Cheers guys, I actually just remembered I have an appointment for a suspected hernia on saturday with my normal GP. I will have a chat with them to see their opinion. Worst case I am sure I will be able to a prescription from them anyway, as I intend to buy an APAP anyway for myself. I will see abou...

NHS and playing with pressures
I've been on CPAP now for 3 months, with readings of around 6.5 AHI pretty consistantly (jumping up to 10 if I have a few beers.) As far as the NHS was concerned, they gave me the machine,a brief instruction and sent me home. In my follow up appointment I asked about the AHI and they simply said not...

Audiobooks and podcasts for me. If I wake up I just throw on a podcast and fall asleep listening to that.

Re: Diagnosed today, need a little encouragement
I'll add my vote to the "put the mask on an hour before bed" brigade. When I started I hated it and panicked. However I found watching TV / reading for an hour with it on before bed meant that by the time I tried to sleep I didn't even notice I was wearing it. 2 months in and I never notice it at al...

Personally I would never deal with anyone on a forum (unless they are a well established persona and / or there is a feedback thread on the forum which rates people post sales) without a 3rd party like Paypal in between.

Diffusing the FFM jet stream...
My wife thinks my CPAP is the best invention ever, and she now gets nearly a full nights sleep each night as I no longer snore and wake up every hour and disturb her. However the one annoyance that we are finding in bed is that if I am on my back, stomach or on my right hand side it is fine. However...
