I think a Resmed S8 auto vantage is a fine chocie too, but only available from DME not from online suppliers. the big advantage is that you can get the main stats each morning off the screen without needing software or card reader, and still have the card to let doctor or DME get full statistics.

Still fat and not particularly energetic or patient BUT blood pressure which was borderline high is now down to 110/70 or slightly less! Good for me, I was always very regular at the gym and used to get fairly good bp readings after working out, now the gym exercize physiologists tell me: "Why do yo...

People often vary in pressure needed and AHI also changes from one night to the next. I monitor my stats very carefully, but cannot really find much of a pattern. My impression is that variations of pressure from 8 to 10 or from 14 to 16 are considered normal, and that as long as the AHI is under 5 ...

I don't think any of us should be so concerned about feeling tired or not feeling tired. People who slept very poorly before will notice a more obvious difference, but breathing well during the night has to be doing good for us. In my case I don't notice a great difference, but I never knew there wa...

I think that on a Resmed machine you can only have exhalation pressuer relief if you are running it as manual CPAP the relief feature does not work in the auto mode. For that you need a respironics which in some models has C'FLEX relief even in auto.

on call/midnight interruptions

last night the phone rang at 2:30 a.m. inviting me to come to the hospital to handle an emergency, I quickly drove there took care of the patient and got back into bed at about 4:00 a.m., turned off my alarm clock so I would be able to sleep past 6:30 and put my APAP on again. This morning when I go...

I have AETNA, was not intolerant of CPAP and yet when my doc agreed APAP was a good idea for various reasons, the DME gave me one for keeps! I don't know if they really go by policy, or they say "We are getting $135 a month for the machine, we provide almost no services for taht money, so of course ...

This is all true, and fairly well known, and it is widely believed that all sleep deprivation whether caused by OSA or overwork or any otehr cause can be linked to weight gain BUT the big question is how often does someone lose weight as a result of treating OSA with CPAP? Answers are very mixed, pr...

I have had the strangest experience, I was titrated to 7 with the note on the report that it did not fully resolve the apnea problem. When I started AAPing merrily away the prssure was 7-9 the first month and then began climbing up and down until the 90th percentile rate was running between 9.5 and 1...

Pressure level & different machines

I think some of this may depend on the level of pressure you need. I have a Resmed S8 vantage, it has EPR which is similar to c-flex BUT it can only use that exhalation pressure relief in fixed (CPAP) mode not in adjustable (APAP) mode. Since I need low pressure (7.8 cm. last night) the lack of EPR ...

I find something important in your post beyond mere compassion. You mention having felt so exhausted prior to diagnosis and treatment of OSA that you were constantly reaching for carbs, and now (on CPAP) losing weight without trying. And a lightbulb went on in my head. I have been frustrated by not ...

before diagnosis my blood pressuer was often as high as 130-135/80-95, after 8 months on APAP it is usually around 110/70, so I am very pleased with that improvement.
(I didn't like the tone of some of the comments, we can agree or diagree without using illustrations of bovine humor.)

Excuse my ignorance, I know they say that untreated sleep apnea can be a factor in causing diabetes and so I guess it could be linked to hypogliecemia too. But does CPAP treatment ever help a person get out of diabetes or get better control of sugar levels?
