I fought and received an autoPAP too, thanks to online encouragement. Now I discovered at today's appointment that my doctor is not interested in looking at the results, says an individual night doesn't matter only the total of years of treatement will make a difference. I hate this dance... first w...

Melissa, I am amused to hear you saying you love your mask... I find myself saying things like that in my head when I go to bed, and really meaning it. But I thought it was so wierd I was embarassed to tell anyone even my wife and my sleep doc. But the main reason I think that way is because I feel ...

I did this performance on the phone for my doctor last week and have a Remstar Pro auto since last Wednesday. I prepared in my mind the following line.... since i would need frequent re-titrations as weight changes (a) it would be torture for me because it was such a bad experience (b) it would be f...

I am using the swift and sensed some leaking last night, does your pantyhose remedy present a possible way of handling it? I like the idea of no clasps sticking into me from the straps. My wife has volunteered any of her stock... do you have some instructions? Does size matter or is there enough ela...

OSA and dementia

Yesterday I saw a COPD patient (as a non-physician counselling hospital patients) with a large BiPAP machine beside her bed, and reviewed her case history with her. She mentioned that since her last hospitalization she had been diagnosed by her pulmonologist with sleep apnea and put on CPAP, she add...

Unless you make sure to get all the details you are likely just to get your lowest desaturation point in the sleep study results. Clearly for damage to the heart and the rest of the hemo-dynamic system to occur, there is a big difference wheher there are brief drops of oxygen saturation or whether t...

I am on my autoPAP for a week, also waking up numerous time just for a minute... unsure whether it is morning or not. Relieved to hear it is somewhat normal... I find myself feeling extremely grateful for having the diagnosis and the appropriate treatment, very negative feelings to the slug (resp. t...

My DME was super accommodating when I talked to them before titration, I shopped around for the most willing to be helpful. Then after I was titrated I got a prescription sent to them, they said they submitted it to insurance immediately for approval, and the next day didn't get a call back eventual...

Water in hose during titration in hospital

Had my first ever titration study last night and first ever experience with CPAP, at 5 in the morning I lay awake when suddenly began hearing the most terrible rattling Loud as could be, but the room full of techs "monitoring" couldn't hear it... I sat up, found I couldn't really talk with CPAP runn...

Recovering from titration

I had my first ever titration study last night.... a mixed experience. My suggestion that because I have a beard I might have less leaks with nasal pillows was accepted and I was tested with a Swift. Not bad, not perfect but didn't leak and didn't hurt although comfortable would be an overstatement....

designing a sleep lab

My room had a selectcomfort bed, but they only told me in the morning that it could have been adjusted. I also would have loved computer access and web browsing and e-mail for the full day MSLT part, I was one of those cases with narcolepsy scare who had to stay till 6:00 p.m. the next day and would...

Mild apnea & auto adjustable APAP

This discussion is of great interest to me, I am post diagnosis but pre-titration and have already formed the idea that an auto-adjustable would be advisable for me. The main reasons are (1) I have an overall index of 17 but only 6 in REM sleep, and fairly low during lateral sleep (which is much of ...

Selections for a new patient

I am also a recently diagnosed sleep apnea patient, in a way my story is the opposite of the previous one. I thought nothing was wrong with my sleep, I was starting to worry about perhaps having mild depression, but was assured by the professionals that I didn't. I was worried about being overweight...

Josh's tale of woe

I know about it, Josh, and this is my take..... I was first informed that I probably had sleep apnea, in mid July, had a sleep study a week later, got the results 10 days after that and have had some days when i felt a bit of Josh's hate and anger. But not nearly as severe, and though I am still bot...

Sleep study experience

I had my sleep study in Hackensack NJ, the hospital there is first-rate and the people compassionate. They book each person to come in at different times so that it goes smoothly and they ask you when you normally go to sleep. I am still struggling to accept my diagnosis, and to face the need for a ...
