Anyone have experience with basal temperature and OSA?

Post by Jaylee » Fri Nov 28, 2014 3:22 pm

Mainly taking your temperature first thing in the morning as a way of natural family planning. Does the BiPap full face mask affect my temperature? It sounds like a silly question but I have googled and can't find any information.

One thing I do know is that 20 years ago when I found out that you needed to have been asleep for 4 hours straight to take a BBT reading, I was amazed. I do that a couple of times per year! But since starting therapy I have had several 4+ hour sleep sessions, and I always feel SOOOO good the next day. I think that the relationship is that you can't get reliable BBT measurements if you have untreated apnea.

One other little complication -- if you have thyroid problems, you will have an elevated BBT if hyper and low BBT if hypo. And the thyroid will screw with your fertility, too.

But, anyway, I'm somewhat bemused that I finally have hopes of getting the fractured sleep a little bit more under control and might be able to use NFP/FAM, and I'm in menopause.

Since you are bemused, then I guess it's ok that I chuckled at that.

Jaylee, that question didn't hit me as being silly. The whole basal temp thing is one I'm uninformed on, so I'm looking forward to reading any discussion.

Your natural body temperature should not be affected. Make sure you take it before you move around.

I used it to get pregnant with my youngest. As a birth control it is very iffy - people who use it usually end up called "parents".

With bbt you are looking at patterns, not specific temperatures, so CPAP should not affect it.

That makes sense.
